Rest-of-Season Projections
Signed a $1 million contract with the Cubs in January of 2022. Traded to the Mets in August of 2026.
Dealt to Mets ahead of deadline
The Mets acquired Rojas from the Cubs on Monday in exchange for right-hander Clay Holmes (fibula) and outfielder Tyrone Taylor, Chelsea Janes of SNY.tv reports.
Analysis
Considering Holmes is headed for free agency this winter and Taylor projects as a reserve outfielder, coughing up Rojas -- arguably the top prospect in the organization, albeit in a weak farm system -- is a hefty price for the Cubs to pay. The 21-year-old shortstop has shown a solid all-around skill set at Double-A Knoxville this season, chipping in 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases while maintaining a .270 average and 16.4 percent clip over 390 plate appearances.

Expected to join 40-man roster
Rojas is expected to be added to the Mets' 40-man roster during the offseason, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic.
Analysis
The move would protect Rojas from being exposed to the Rule 5 Draft -- New York will need to officially add the prospect to the 40-man roster to ensure another organization can't select him. Rojas is one of the top prospects in the Mets organization, and he was acquired from the Cubs at the deadline in the deal that sent Clay Holmes to Chicago.
