He spent most of the year in the Double-A bullpen and walked far too many batters to think he'll be challenging for a spot in the big leagues in 2009. He still doesn't have much more than high 90s heat in his arsenal, and at 25 is no longer a young gun with a live arm. He needs to show some development fast, or he'll get left behind.
The Marlins gave Delgado some starts in 2007 at Double-A in an effort to get him more work, but it wasn't enough to help him sort out his control problems. He still has major league stuff, including a fastball that has touched 98 mph in the past, but unless he learns to find the plate more often with it he won't have much of a major league future.
Acquired in the Josh Beckett deal, Delgado had a decent season out of the bullpen in High-A, striking out 40 batters in 38.1 IP. His ceiling would seem to be that of a major league middle reliever, but he's got a spot on the 40-man roster and could get pushed quickly if he shows improvement.
