St. Louis Cardinals AAA
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Cardinals were searching for offensive help in every corner of their roster last season, but even with that Fermin wasn't able to sniff the lineup on a regular basis. He didn't exactly make a compelling case for himself in the few opportunities he was given, either, looking overmatched in his 79 plate appearances. The 26-year-old did put together easily his best offensive showing at Triple-A Memphis, but considering it was his fourth stint at the Triple-A level, that's not exactly something to write home about. Fermin has speed and offers some defensive versatility, but he appears no closer to carving out a big-league role than he did at this time last year. Read Past Outlooks

The Cardinals optioned Fermin to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.
Analysis
With St. Louis bringing back Nolan Arenado (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list, Fermin was an expendable piece in the Cardinals infield. After receiving a promotion from Memphis on Saturday, Fermin appeared in one of the Cardinals' final two games of the series in Milwaukee over the weekend, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Fermin was acquired from Cleveland last winter, but his bid to win an Opening Day bench spot with the Cardinals ended before it began when he suffered a severe quad strain early in spring training which wound up sidelining him for nearly four months. He saw some spot duty with the Cards down the stretch and showed a solid glove, but his bat lagged well behind. That's been the case with Fermin throughout his days in pro ball, as he's never even had an .800 OPS in a season and sports a .709 OPS during his time at Triple-A. The power is basically non-existent and he hasn't displayed any stolen base chops since A-ball. Fermin will be in the mix for a reserve role in St. Louis, but they figure to be in trouble if he has to play very much.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could see outfield action
2BSt. Louis Cardinals  AAA
May 31, 2024
According to John Denton of MLB.com, Fermin played one game in left field for Triple-A Memphis in an attempt to improve his versatility as a big-league bench piece. He was called up by the Cardinals on Friday.
Analysis
The 25-year-old appeared in nine games for the Cardinals in late April and early May but has spent most of the campaign with Memphis, where he has a .346/.461/.615 slash line in 32 contests. St. Louis' infield is currently in good health, so being a viable option in the outfield can only help Fermin's outlook for playing time. Still, he'll likely be limited to a reserve role barring an injury for the Cardinals.
