2025 Fantasy Outlook
Traded from the Padres to the Yankees in December of 2023, Soto put New York over the top in the American League last season. He posted 8.1 fWAR, the highest mark of his career and fourth in MLB behind Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt and Shohei Ohtani. Soto reached 40 homers for the first time ever, led the AL in runs scored with 128 and powered the club to the pennant with a .327/.469/.633 line and four homers in the postseason. A four-time All-Star before the age of 26, Soto received a historic payday from the Mets this winter. He's staying in New York but shifting from a park that was third best for lefty power, per Statcast, to the park that ranked 21st. His elite plate skills and proven durability give him a sky-high floor and top-five overall upside if his batting average swings toward the high end of his range of potential outcomes. The only drag in the rotisserie game is limited speed, but Soto isn't a total zero in the stolen base category, as he's swiped a total of 25 bags over the last three years. Read Past Outlooks

Belts homer in loss
Soto went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Soto sparked the Mets' comeback effort with his third-inning homer. He has an extra-base hit in five straight games, going 6-for-18 (.333) with three homers, five RBI and two doubles in that span. Prior to Soto's recent turnaround in the power department, he had endured a brutal 16-game stretch in which he had just one extra-base hit, a double, while going 7-for-59 (.119). That slump has done damage to his overall numbers, as he's at a .233/.361/.438 slash line through 60 contests. The outfielder has added 11 homers, seven stolen bases, 30 RBI, 39 runs scored and 12 doubles this season.

All's well that ends well? Soto was hitting .202 with five homers and 11 RBI as the calendar flipped to May, making many fantasy managers rather nervous watching their first round foundational pick get off to such a poor start. Soto went on to turn things around, hitting 30 homers, driving in 98, and hitting .290 for the rest of the season to finish as the 16th most valuable fantasy player in our standard rankings. He was one of three qualified hitters with more walks than strikeouts in 2023 and has still not fallen below the .400 mark for a season on-base percentage in his entire career. The batting average has taken a tumble since the 2020-2021 season but the volume is still in place for the other statistics. After getting traded to the Yankees for his final year before free agency, Soto will gain a massive home-park power boost, as Yankee Stadium rates as the second best park for lefty power, per Baseball Savant's park factors, while San Diego rated as the fifth-worst such park. There will be immense pressure on him to produce in pinstripes as his free agency looms next winter.

Pressing at plate
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Friday that he thinks Soto is trying to do too much at the plate, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off signing a 15-year, $765 million contract over the offseason, Soto is hitting .224 with a .352 on-base percentage and eight home runs in 55 games while being worth 0.6 wins above replacement, according to FanGraphs. Stearns noted that it's natural for a player who cares to try to do too much.
