2025 Fantasy Outlook
Caminero's 2024 debut came much later in the season than fantasy managers had hoped for when drafting him prior to the season. Tampa Bay premier prospects are always delayed by service time manipulation, but Caminero's progress was twice disrupted by left leg injuries which led to him playing just 53 games in Triple-A and eventually 43 games at the big-league level. The overall numbers were not nearly as impressive as what he did in 2023, but the quad and hamstring injuries never allowed him to get into much of a rhythm. It is important to remember he already has over 200 plate appearances at the big-league level before his 22nd birthday, as he will not turn 22 until early July. The sample sizes remain too small to draw any conclusions, but Caminero has six of his seven homers against righties while his batting average against righties is nearly 100 points below what he has done against lefties. Caminero should be with the Rays for the entirety of the 2025 season as long as his body holds up, but expect more growing pains. Read Past Outlooks

Battling back tightness
3BTampa Bay Rays
Back
September 17, 2025
Caminero was removed from Wednesday's game against Toronto with mid-back tightness, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Analysis
Caminero had gone 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts before his back forced him to make an early exit during the seventh inning. The Rays are already labeling him as day-to-day, which suggests his injury isn't too serious, though they may give Tristan Gray or Richie Palacios a start at third base Thursday to give Caminero extra time to recover.

2023
The Rays are known for slow-playing prospects, but not many hitters reach Double-A at 19 and proceed to hit 20 homers with a .309 average and a 17.1 K% over 81 games, but that's exactly what Caminero did. Tampa Bay rewarded the young slugger's exploits, jumping him over Triple-A for his big-league debut shortly after his 20th birthday and late enough in the season for him to enter this year rookie-eligible and therefore Prospect Promotion Incentive draft pick eligible. Caminero only had 26 batted-ball events but still managed a 112-mph max exit velocity, although his minor-league hard-hit data was already superlative, so that didn't shed new light. He hits missiles to all fields and can handle high-end velocity and spin. There's nothing to quibble with offensively, especially when projecting a couple years into the future, aside from the fact he probably won't contribute on the bases. Caminero enters the year eligible at third base (three games), but he also saw brief time at shortstop (two games) and second base (one game). It's always pretty crowded in Tampa Bay, but considering Taylor Walls, Osleivis Basabe and Jonathan Aranda all saw plenty of playing time down the stretch, there should be room for Caminero to carve out an everyday role.
Caminero broke out in 2022 in the sense that he validated those who kept him or targeted him in dynasty leagues, but his true breakout could come in 2023 in his first full season of affiliated ball. A 19-year-old physical specimen, Caminero proved to be too talented for lower-level pitching last season. He slashed .317/.384/.500 with a 15.9 percent strikeout rate and 11 home runs in 62 games between the Florida Complex League and Single-A. Caminero's 90th-percentile exit velocity is elite for his age, and his bat speed and explosiveness are noticeably different from that of most of his peers. He's the type of hitting prospect worth paying up on speculation.

Strong showing at Home Run Derby
3BTampa Bay Rays
July 14, 2025
Caminero finished as the runner-up in Monday's Home Run Derby.
Analysis
Caminero got off to a strong start at the Derby, hammering 21 home runs in the first round. He didn't require much effort to get into the final round, swatting eight home runs to end Byron Buxton's night. However, he ran into a red hot Cal Raleigh in the finals, falling 18 home runs to 15. Caminero put on quite the show in the end, with his longest home run registering at 475 feet, and 16 of his 21 first-round home runs reaching 425-plus feet, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
