Fails physical, contract voided

Flores' minor league contract was voided after he failed a physical on Thursday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
The 25-year-old was sent to have an MRI earlier in the week after experiencing some shoulder discomfort, and it turned out to be pretty serious, as the Cardinals decided to void his non-guaranteed contract after his physical results came in. He was a non-roster invitee for the Red Birds, and although he was likely an organizational depth piece, his hopes of catching on with another team this year now seem pretty unlikely until he's healthy.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Flores was all over the place in 2015, where he went from the majors to the minors twice, and when he finally looked like he had a permanent spot, his season was cut short on Aug. 22 due to a shoulder injury. For the Marlins, he pitched 13 innings and went 1-2 behind a 4.97 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Miami is very optimistic about Flores' potential due to the strong arm he has, and hope his development will continue. The early expectation for Flores in 2016 is to be a bigger part of the Marlins bullpen and he will be fighting to break camp on the Opening Day roster.
Flores held his own in the California League last season as a 22-year-old, but there are still questions as to whether he'll be more than an innings eater down the road. Striking out more than a batter per inning, and maintaining a walk rate below 3.0 BB/9 will always make a pitcher look intriguing on paper, but there's not much to get excited about in Flores' arsenal. Even as he was able to miss bats last season, High-A hitters managed to push his WHIP to 1.26. If he can generate similar results at Double-A, it will likely be the result of skills growth, but until that materializes, it's probably best to take a wait-and-see approach.
