Negron announced his retirement on his personal Twitter page Tuesday.

Negron was reportedly released earlier in the day, but it now appears that he left the Dodgers of his own accord. The 33-year-old will end his career having played parts of six seasons in the big leagues for the Reds, Diamondbacks, Mariners and Dodgers, hitting .221/.291/.336 with nine homers and 10 steals in 170 games.

The consensus that Negron's power breakout in 2014 was a fluke was correct, and the regression monster struck with a vengeance in 2015. Negron had a paltry .399 OPS in 107 plate appearances at the big league level and didn't hit much better after getting sent back down to Triple-A. To add injury to insult, he ended the season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, an injury that required surgery in September. He's now a free agent and might not catch on with anyone in time for spring training.

Negron is an interesting story, insomuch that nowhere in his minor league career did he display the power he showed in 49 major league games with the Reds at 28 in his first extended opportunity. On one hand, his performance was partially fueled by a .337 BABIP, but on the other, he had a superb .208 ISO. The smart money is that Negron benefited from a small sample fluke in a great hitter's ballpark (.960 home OPS, .702 road OPS) and fade him in 2015. He is unlikely to step into a starting role at any rate.
