It's a good indication that he no longer factors into the team's future plans. Broadway's hitting a miserable .173 at Triple-A this season, with just five home runs.

Broadway put up solid but unspectacular numbers at Triple-A before his season was cut short by a shoulder injury. In fact, "solid but unspectacular" just about defines his minor league career, as Broadway's status as a top Nationals prospect has always been more due to a lack of talent around him than his own abilities. Barring a trade or Nick Johnson injury, though, it looks like he'll have plenty of time to solve Triple-A pitching once and for all.
It's looking less likely that Broadway, now 25 years old, will be anything more than a bench player in the majors -- at best -- with each passing mediocre minor league campaign.
Broadway is the Nats' first baseman of the future, although losing more than 100 points off his SLG in his first full season at Double-A has to be a trifle worrying. He'll be 24 next season, so the future's going to become the present quicker than the team might like.
Broadway saw three levels of the Expos organization in 2003, finishing up with a .321/.351/.551 line in 78 Double-A at bats. He's not yet ready for the bigs, but the trade for Nick Johnson means he doesn't have to be.
