Marson signed a minor league deal with the Angels on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
                  Analysis
Marson has not seen significant time at the major league level since 2012 when he played in 70 games for the Indians. In addition, he has only played in 25 games combined between Double-A, Triple-A, and the MLB over the past three seasons. This move seems to be simply to increase the Angels' organizational depth.

Throughout his career, Marson has been known for his work behind the plate rather than his contributions swinging the bat. A shoulder injury limited him to just five plate appearances at the big league level in 2013 and the emergence of Yan Gomes ultimately rendered him expendable. Marson is ideally suited to serve as a caddy to a workhorse catcher, where he could make a start or two each week and contribute from the bottom-third of the batting order. A career .219/.309/.299 hitter, Marson signed a minor league deal with the Phillies in December where he will compete to back up Carlos Ruiz this spring.
