Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
After averaging 139 games and 549 plate appearances over the previous two seasons, recurring shoulder problems and a late-season oblique strain limited Vierling to just 31 games and 100 plate appearances. He hit only one home run, which could be attributed to lingering shoulder issues, but his quality of contact actually improved, as he hit the ball harder than in prior seasons and produced a high barrel rate. He generated a career-high xSLG contrasting with a career-low actual slugging percentage. While he had previously played nearly every day, his splits suggest he is better suited for the short side of a platoon, either at third base or in the outfield. Vierling is expected to be healthy for spring training and should rebound offensively, though his playing time is unlikely to return to pre-injury levels. Read Past Outlooks
IL bound with adductor strain
The Tigers placed Vierling on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left adductor strain.
Analysis
Vierling suffered the injury during Wednesday's 12-inning loss to the Orioles. Though Vierling is without a clear timeline for a return, he'll likely miss more than the minimum 10 days, given the nature for the injury. The Tigers called up Max Clark from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, and the 21-year-old outfielder will make his major-league debut Friday against the Athletics.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
2022
Vierling is one of those players who is probably more valuable in real-life baseball than he is in fantasy, though in 2024, he did manage his best fantasy season to date. The 28-year-old is known for his versatility, as he played at five different positions last year for the Tigers, including all three outfield spots. He saw his most time in center field followed by third base. The ability to move around the diamond makes Vierling a useful piece for Detroit, and he was a lineup regular for the Tigers down the stretch as they made a surprise postseason run. Offensively, Vierling is more of a middling option. He did manage new career highs in home runs and RBI in 2024, though only with modest totals of 16 and 57, respectively, across 144 games. Vierling also doesn't run a ton, having never reached double figures in stolen bases during his MLB career. Heading into 2025, Vierling carries some appeal in deeper formats due to his versatility and regular playing time, but managers in shallower leagues can likely find players with more upside at the plate.
