                2025 Fantasy Outlook

The Rangers experienced the dreaded World Series hangover as a team, but Eovaldi emerged largely unaffected. The veteran right-hander missed nearly all of May with a groin issue, but his 29 starts and 170.2 innings were easily his highest marks over the last three seasons and his 23.9 percent strikeout rate was also tops over that stretch. Eovaldi will be going into his age-35 season and no longer sits in the upper-90s with his fastball, but the pitch remains effective in large part because it pairs so well with his nasty splitter. He's a quintessential high-floor fantasy option who lacks big strikeout upside but offers a stable skill set, and he's back with the Rangers after agreeing to a three-year, $75 million deal. Undergoes sports hernia surgery
Eovaldi underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia, Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports reports.
                  Analysis
The typical recovery timeline for the procedure is 6-to-8 weeks, which will allow Eovaldi to begin his offseason throwing program when he normally would. He is expected to be fully recovered from the hernia surgery and also his late-season rotation cuff strain in time for the start of spring training. Eovaldi held a 1.73 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 129:21 K:BB across 130 innings for the Rangers in 2025.

Eovaldi was on pace for a career year in 2023 with a 2.69 ERA and 1.01 WHIP through 19 starts, but he went down with a forearm strain in late July that sidelined him for about six weeks. He returned in September but allowed 21 runs over 20.2 frames in his final six outings of the regular season, though he got back on track in the playoffs with a 2.95 ERA to help Texas win its first World Series. The right-hander finished with a 3.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 132:47 K:BB over 144 innings for the campaign, which was a minor improvement on his results from the previous three seasons. Eovaldi has established himself as a solid mid-rotation pitcher over the past few years but still has durability questions, having topped 150 innings just once since 2016.

                  Nearing qualified status
Eovaldi's 1.38 ERA through 19 starts this season leads the league, though he's not yet qualified to be listed on MLB leaderboards, per Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News.
                  Analysis
Starting pitchers need one inning per team game in order to be considered qualified, and Eovaldi's 111 innings fall just short of the Rangers' 116 games. The right-hander could reach qualified status within his next couple starts, and he'll likely enter the Cy Young conversation if he stays healthy and continues to pitch at a similar level. Eovaldi had been a reliable starter over the previous five seasons with a 3.75 ERA, but he's now working what could be the best campaign of his 14-year career.
