Longhi signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies as a non-roster invitee Wednesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Longhi spent the 2020 season with the Red Sox on a minor-league deal, but the 25-year-old has yet to make his first appearance in the big leagues. He'll get to work with the major-league coaching staff in spring training after slashing .283/.336/.463 with 12 home runs and 51 RBI over 110 games with Triple-A Louisville in 2019.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
Longhi seems to have been around forever, but he was drafted young and is just 21 years old despite entering his fifth year in the Boston organization. He's made steady advancement from the Gulf Coast to short-season Low-A Lowell to full-season Low-A Greenville to High-A Salem last year, where he stayed afloat offensively 124 games. Longhi, who is pegged to first base and/or corner outfield, hit just two homers last season. While he ranked second in the Carolina League with 40 doubles, he needs to start generating home-run power. As alluded to earlier, he's young, and there's still physical and power upside into which he can grow. The bat is steady -- Longhi's longest hitless stretch was three games -- and he's defensively sound, but he'll be a top prospect in the organization because the Red Sox traded away several elite chips and have graduated others to the big leagues. He'll get a bump to Double-A Portland to open 2017.
Longhi spent the entire 2015 season at Low-A Greenville, batting .281/.338/.403 with seven homers and 62 RBI in 115 games for the Drive. He’s a bit young for the level, so it’s a respectable line for the 20-year-old. He played mostly first base, but also spent some time in right field. Longhi makes contact and hits to all fields. At present, Longhi has more gap power than home-run power, but at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, the right-handed batter is still young and has the frame to handle more bulk and to generate that over-the-fence power. He needs to develop it because he profiles as a first baseman or corner outfielder. Defensively, Longhi is very comfortable at first base, scooping balls, showing soft hands and good footwork. He’s also got a strong enough arm that he can handle playing a corner-outfield spot. Longhi will probably start the season at High-A Salem.
Longhi lasted until the 30th round of the 2013 draft because many felt he'd be a tough sign. It cost the Red Sox their fourth-highest bonus to entice Longhi to forgo his commitment to LSU. After being drafted, he spent 16 games with the Gulf Coast Red Sox, playing both first base and left field. He's not a great athlete and will be limited to first and/or corner outfield. Longhi has raw power and it's worth noting six of his eight hits last year went for extra bases. He's getting accustomed to the speed and grind of professional ball, so we're not reading too much into last year's performance. The question right now is if Longhi can develop a good enough approach that allows him to tap into the power potential.
