Jones signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Jones spent last season at Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox organization, managing just a .586 OPS with seven homers over 67 games while splitting most of his time between the two corner-infield spots. The 28-year-old hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2018, and with his offensive production having trended downward in the minors in recent seasons, Jones announced Dec. 31 via his personal Instagram account that he intends to transition to full-time pitching in 2023. He tossed one scoreless inning of mop-up duty at Triple-A last season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
It appeared Jones was in line for a decent look in September with the Giants well out of postseason contention and with Brandon Belt banged up. However, his audition was cut short, with his season ending prematurely due to a left knee patella dislocation. He had surgery not only to repair the patella, but also to relieve tendinitis in that same knee. The plan was for him to resume hitting off a tee and fielding grounders by Christmas. During his time at Triple-A Sacramento, Jones hit .290/.334/.442 against right-handed pitching but his overall numbers were disappointing given the environment and the fact that he crushed it in his first taste of that level in 2017 -- his ISO crashed from .262 to .143 and his wRC+ fell from 148 to 93. Given he's limited to the infield corners, defensively, Jones will be a tough sell for a bench spot out of camp.
