2023 Fantasy Outlook
Effross doesn't throw hard - he averages just 90.8 mph on his fastball - but averaged a ridiculous 17.3 inches of break on the pitch. His sinker (34% pitch usage) still needs work, but the side-armer's fastball movement, combined with an effective slider (40%) and much-improved changeup (15%), yielded excellent results. Effross pitched a career-high 56.2 innings between the Cubs and Yankees, with a 2.54 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 62:15 K:BB ratio. Unfortunately, a strained shoulder sidelined him for just over a month late in the season, then he missed the playoffs after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery. Effross is also expected to miss the 2023 season, but this emerging reliever most certainly will factor into the Yankees' late-innings plans in 2024 and beyond. Read Past Outlooks

Starts throwing program
Effross (elbow) began a throwing program Monday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Effross is at the beginning stages of a long road back from last October's Tommy John surgery. There might be an outside chance he makes it back late in the 2023 season, but the better bet is that he'll be held out until 2024.
