Going overseas
Moya signed a one-year contract with the Chunichi Dragons of the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Moya spent the entire 2017 season in the minor leagues within the Detroit organization, slashing just .166/.222/.344 during 46 games in Triple-A. He played in 31 big-league games in 2016, but wasn't able to make enough of an impression to warrant any more playing time in the majors.

Moya is listed at 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, but if you see him in person, both of those measurements feel understated. He is big in stature and big in power and has hit 35, 20, and 25 homers over the past three seasons. Unfortunately, he is also big on impatience, as he is aggressive at the plate and strikes out a ton. In Triple-A Toledo, he struck out 27 percent of the time in 2016. In the 133 plate appearances he has had at the big league level, he has struck out in 38 percent. At 25, he still has time for improvement, so he could go back to Triple-A for more seasoning. He has to play a corner outfield spot or serve at DH, but of course, Justin Upton, J.D. Martinez, and Victor Martinez block all three of those spots with the big club. If the younger Martinez is traded, then Moya becomes a high-risk chase of power upside.
