ANALYSIS
Renda was designated for assignment at the start of November but will remain in the Red Sox organization for now. The 27-year-old slashed .318/.373/.453 between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket, and will continue to provide organizational depth at second base as Dustin Pedroia continues his recovery from his knee issues.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
Renda is another example of a replacement-level player thrust into major league action solely due to issues at the major league level. The 25-year-old began the season with Double-A Pensacola and performed well, slashing .326/.369/.467 with the Blue Wahoos before being sent up to Triple-A Louisville. He got the call to the majors when a need arose, but things went downhill after that, as he could only muster a .183 batting average in his limited appearances. Although his 29:47 BB:K across the three levels is decent, his inability to hit advanced pitching left him with less upside than other Reds prospects. Cincinnati designated him for assignment following the season's conclusion. Renda has some things going for him (plate discipline, defensive versatility, above-average speed), but his uninspiring performance in 2016 at the highest level will likely keep him in an organizational depth role going forward.
