Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
Brown earned a roster spot out of spring training after Andrew Susac failed to return from his wrist injury. The backup catcher hit the ground running, smacking three home runs in his first two starts after not hitting more than three homers in any of his previous three minor league seasons. His quick start fizzled out into a .237/.283/.364 slash line over 184 at-bats. Those numbers don't project to be fantasy worthy even if Brown were to see regular playing time. Despite his offensive deficiencies, he held his own behind the dish and should serve as Buster Posey's primary backup this season.
Brown saw his first major league action in 2015 when injuries struck the Giants backstops in September. He got into 13 games and finished with a .231/.279/.308 slash line. While that was a fairly small sample size, we can go ahead and write off Brown as a fantasy non-factor, as he hasn’t hit more than three home runs during any season in the minors. With an offseason to heal, the Giants will be refreshed at the catcher position, pushing Brown back into a minor league depth role.
