Brutal results in rookie ball
SSLos Angeles Dodgers  A
July 7, 2022
Diaz is hitting just .161/.215/.230 with one home run and a 5:35 BB:K in 21 games for the Dodgers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League club.
ANALYSIS
After a rough go in the Dominican Summer League last year, Diaz has come stateside and fallen flat on his face so far, striking out at a brutal 37.6 percent clip. It's shocking to see such a highly rated prospect be so overmatched at the lowest levels of pro baseball, but Diaz is still just 18 years old, so he's got some time to make adjustments and get back on track.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
We have yet to see Diaz play in affiliated games, but based on limited footage and evaluations from those who have seen him in person, he looks like he has star potential. He signed with the Dodgers for roughly $2.8 million on Jan. 15, 2021 and is one of the headliners of this most recent international signing class. A 17-year-old shortstop from Venezuela, Diaz has a great 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame to grow into. He has superlative bat speed and makes it look incredibly easy in the field and at the dish. Diaz plays loose and should grow into impact power to all fields. His speed is to be determined. While he isn't considered a plus runner at this stage, that's a tool that can fluctuate as players mature physically. It's possible he could outgrow shortstop, but the hope is that his bat will play anywhere on the field.

Diaz is expected to sign with the Dodgers for seven figures once the 2020-21 international signing period begins, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
A 6-foot-2, 165-pound shortstop, Diaz is expected to follow Diego Cartaya and Luis Rodriguez as top Venezuelan prospects to sign with with the Dodgers. He has a great frame to grow into and should eventually develop impact power, although he is not a lock to stick at shortstop.
