Hollins was waived by the Grizzlies on Thursday, Kevin Lipe of the Memphis Flyer reports.
ANALYSIS
Hollis had played only six minutes over the Grizzlies' last four games, but his release still comes as somewhat of a surprise given the team's injury issues. Regardless, the Grizzlies are apparently comfortable going forth with Chris Andersen, Zach Randolph, JaMychal Green, and Jarell Martin as their frontcourt options as the postseason approaches. The 31-year-old Hollins, who previously spent time with the Wizards, appeared in 32 games for the Grizzlies, making nine starts and averaging 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12.9 minutes.

Hollins didn’t play much in the 39 games that he saw the floor in 2011-12 with both Cleveland and Boston. The upcoming season probably won’t be very different, as he’ll have to fight for minutes with Ronny Turiaf to be the primary backup to DeAndre Jordan.
An athletic specimen with long arms and freakish jumping abilities, Hollins will begin the year as the Cavaliers’ backup center. If Varejao remains healthy, Hollins will not play enough to be fantasy-worthy.
At seven feet tall, Hollins provides the Cavs with some size down low. However, he doesn’t rebound particularly well considering his size. Hollins averaged only 2.9 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game last season. Don’t look for him to have much of a fantasy impact this season.
The seven-foot center provides some height for the Wolves in a backup role to Minnesota's small front court of behind Al Jefferson and Kevin Love. He's an outstanding athlete, but has a low basketball IQ. He's just 25 and showed flashes of being an impact player last season with Dallas, but the odds are long he'll develop into anything more than a backup center. However, he landed with the right team to get plenty of opportunity.
Charlotte’s thin front court got Hollins some consideration early on last year, but he quickly found his way to the end of the bench. Despite re-signing him in the offseason, Hollins was not featured during the summer league and you can see where his 2008-09 season is heading.
The 7-footer from UCLA is a bit of a project, but he's more athletic than Brezec and might block two shots a game if he gets enough playing time. But he wont provide much offense, and even as the starting center on UCLA's national title team in 2005, he grabbed only 4.8 rebounds per game.
Hollins is a raw athlete who has some shot blocking ability. His primary role this season will be to learn from the veterans as he is not expected to get much playing time.
