Brockman's hard work drew praise from the Pelicans' summer league coach Bryan Gates, the The Advocate reports. "Jon Brockman — he’s the same as [former Pelican and summer league teammate] Lance [Thomas],” Gates said. “If it’s at the mountains of Sonoma or if it’s at Madison Square Garden or if it’s in the beautiful New Orleans Arena, he plays hard. That’s just how he goes.”
ANALYSIS
Brockman averaged 5.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, numbers just slightly below those of Thomas. Though appreciation of his hard work is a good thing, one has to assume that if the final roster spot were to come down to Brockman or Thomas, the player who has familiarity with the team and coaching staff, Thomas, would have the upper hand.

A journeyman power forward, Brockman - assuming he gets over his current eye injury - will compete for backup minutes in the frontcourt.
Brockman is strong on the glass, but he doesn’t do much else and was often miscast as a center last season. If Drew Gooden serves as the backup center off the bench, and Larry Sanders plays more of a role this season, Brockman’s role could shrink to almost zilch.
Brockman is a relentless rebounder, but his role with the Bucks is a bit unclear because there are a lot of bodies at power forward and Brockman's size (6-7) makes him a less-than-ideal fit as a backup center. With extensive playing time he might post some impressive rebound totals, but right now those minutes just don't seem to be available.
Brockman, a second round pick out of the University of Washington, is a bruising power forward but is not expected to make a big impact in 2009-10. The Blazers selected Brockman with the 38th overall pick, but his rights were traded to the Kings as part of a draft-day deal between the teams. He'll add grit and toughness but won't see many minutes during his rookie campaign.
