2025 Fantasy Outlook
After seven seasons with the Trail Blazers, Simons was traded to Boston in June. The high-scoring guard joins a 2025-26 Celtics team that is anxious for points production after losing Jayson Tatum (injury), Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis (trades). Simons is coming off a 2024-25 season in which his shot attempts, minutes, field goal percentage, three-point accuracy and free throw percentage all dipped slightly versus the prior season. With Boston, the veteran guard will probably return to or exceed the career-high 18.2 field goal attempts he hoisted in 2023-24. Simons played in 70 games last year, a solid sign after the guard struggled with ankle and knee issues the previous season. The bulk of Boston's backcourt minutes will go to three-combo guards: Simons, Derrick White, and Sixth Man Award winner Payton Pritchard. White should be the alpha dog of the group, with Pritchard sticking to his bench role. With fellow starters White and Jaylen Brown receiving most of the defense's attention, expect Simons to enjoy more catch-and-shoot opportunities than he had in Portland. On bad Trail Blazers teams, Simons was often stuck having to create his own shot. We may see both more volume and improved accuracy from Simons in 2025-26. Read Past Outlooks
Full stat line in team debut
Simons notched 13 points (5-10 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 32 minutes during Wednesday's 117-116 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
The Celtics opted to start Payton Pritchard on Wednesday, but Simons was still able to provide a spark off the bench in his Celtics debut. The two guards will likely be battling for Boston's top spot at point guard throughout the year, and Simons showed in the season opener that he is capable of being productive from the second unit.

As expected, Simons took on more offensive responsibility during the 2023-24 season, serving as the primary scoring option following the departure of Damian Lillard. Simons rounded out the season with averages of 22.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 3.4 three-pointers in 34.4 minutes per game. Sadly, his season was bookended by ankle and knee injuries, limiting him to just 46 games. The Trail Blazers are in a rebuilding phase, something that seems likely to continue for at least the next 12 months. Heading into the 2024-25 season, Simons is likely to once again be utilized as the first or second option on offense, giving him a relatively safe fantasy floor. He will have to share the ball with Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe, both of whom will be looking to put together strong seasons of their own. Lack of team success could result in missed games down the stretch, something that managers will need to account for when drafting Portland players. As a potential 23+ point scorer, Simons is worth considering as early as the sixth round, although nabbing him in the seventh round feels less fraught with risk.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely staying put
Simons is now expected to open the season in Boston, John Karalis of the Boston Sports Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
"We've spent most of the summer mostly ignoring Anfernee Simons, other than to say he's probably going to get traded," Karalis said. "There's good reason for that. The Celtics never scheduled an introductory press conference, mostly because they didn't want to introduce a guy in early July only for him to spend August or September apartment hunting in a different city. Even as I write this, I'm still not 100 percent sure he'll make it to opening night." Karalis adds that this could be a pretty awkward situation at training camp, but if he does stick around, Simons' offensive ability is something the Celtics can count on. He's projected to come off the bench behind Payton Pritchard, but there are a ton of holes in Boston's rotation, and Simons does have a path to earn considerable minutes.
