2025 Fantasy Outlook
Coulibaly made another impressive developmental leap in his second season, although injuries limited him to 59 regular-season appearances. Coulibaly averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.7 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.1 three-pointers in 33.0 minutes per game. Despite these solid counting stats, he shot just 42.1 percent from the field and 74.6 percent from the line, and that contributed to him finishing outside the top-150 in standard nine-category leagues. His three-point shot also regressed from 34 percent as a rookie to 28 percent in 2024-25. As for the new season, the Wizards still project to be an uninspiring team at this point in their rebuild, but that's good news for Coulibaly's outlook as he's going to get a ton of minutes. The presence of Khris Middleton and CJ McCollum complicates things from a usage perspective, but Coulibaly is someone who could trend up throughout the season as the Wizards begin to dial back their veterans. The forward has appetizing steal/block rates, and he showed tremendous growth as a playmaker last season. However, in order for him to truly break out, there needs to be some serious positive regression with his shooting. There's still a lot to like here as a late-round pick with upside, but the 20-year-old forward will likely miss the start of the campaign while recovering from offseason thumb surgery. Posts full line in debut
Coulibaly (thumb) ended with 16 points (6-12 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal across 24 minutes in Thursday's 127-108 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
After missing Washington's first four games while completing his recovery from right thumb surgery, Coulibaly was cleared to make his 2025-26 debut Thursday and immediately took back a spot in the starting five, with Bub Carrington moving to the bench as a result. Though he improved his averages across the board during his sophomore season in 2024-25 while taking on a larger role for Washington, Coulibaly didn't take much of a step forward with his efficiency, converting at a 42.1 percent clip from the field and 28.1 percent rate from downtown. At least for his debut game, Coulibaly fared well from inside the arc, and he delivered the production in the defensive categories that has driven most of his fantasy value in the prior two seasons. Some inconsistency should be expected with Coulibaly's offensive output moving forward, but the excellent all-around line he posted Thursday at least makes him worthy of a speculative pickup in most leagues where he's still available.

It's difficult to get excited about Coulibaly when looking at his statistics, but people in Washington have been raving about the former top-10 pick. Some have compared him to Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that seems dramatic at this point. After struggling the first few weeks, Coulibaly averaged 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.7 blocks and 1.0 threes across 28 minutes over his final 55 games. None of those numbers jump off the page, but few players provide value in every category like that. Coulibaly is also supposed to be an elite defender, and it'll be interesting to see the 20-year-old wing play over 30 minutes for a rebuilding Washington team. It remains to be seen if Coulibaly will start. Alex Sarr and Kyle Kuzma are projected to start at the forward spots. That's a frustrating development for such a talented youngster, but Coulibaly should still have plenty of developmental opportunities. There's also some thought that Kuzma will be traded at some point, which could move Coulibaly right into a 35-minute role as a starter. The young wing could be a top-50 player with that role combined with his nine-category potential, making Coulibaly an enticing late-round flier at the end of drafts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Recovery timeline updated
Coulibaly, who underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb Sept. 12, is expected to miss six to eight weeks, according to Grant Afseth of RG reports.
ANALYSIS
This means Coulibaly will likely be sidelined for at least the first week of the season, which tips off Oct. 21. Afseth notes that even if Coulibaly were to get back to full health on the earlier side of that timeline, he would still have to get his conditioning back up to par. "Usually, you're not touching a basketball, unless it's just to do off-hand work, until that six-week mark," a source told Afseth. "Then he'd have to do contact work before playing." This news could see Coulibaly's fantasy draft stock take a hit, but he remains an intriguing late-round pick after averaging 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals during the 2024-25 regular season.
