2024 Fantasy Outlook
Schroder was a solid fantasy option last season because he was the starting point guard for a terrible Toronto team. The veteran is walking into a similar situation this season, as he'll likely run point for Brooklyn. The Nets acquired him at the deadline last season, and Schroder averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.4 blocks and 2.2 threes over the final 22 games. That's quite the stat line from a player who was taken at the end of drafts last year. It's safe to expect something similar since the Nets might have the worst roster in the NBA, allowing Schroder to play heavy minutes and rack up stats. The one big question mark is Ben Simmons, who could take ball-handling duties away from Schroder. The Aussie has barely played over the last five years, and we have to assume he won't do much once again. Cam Thomas is the only other player taking away usage, but Schroder should still be the team's primary playmaker. Given Brooklyn is rebuilding, he may be traded at some point, but look for Schroder to be a reliable fantasy asset through the first half of the season. Read Past Outlooks

Joining Sacramento
Schroder agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with the Kings on Tuesday, NBA reporter Chris Haynes reports.
ANALYSIS
After the trade of De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk became the Kings' starting point guard, but they could certainly use more depth, and Schroder fills that void with veteran leadership. The floor general averaged 13.1 points, 5.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game across 75 regular-season contests in 2024-25 while suiting for the Nets, Warriors and Pistons.

The 29-year-old guard had a hard time finding work last offseason, but after a strong showing for Team Germany in the EuroBasket tournament, he rejoined the Lakers on a modest one-year prove-it deal. The gamble paid off, as Schroder posted his usual solid numbers over 66 games and cashed in with a two-year, $26 million contract from the Raptors in June. While he'll line up as Toronto's point guard, replacing Fred VanVleet, Schroder's days as a starter seemed gone prior to this deal. He's most effective when he can use his speed and quickness to push the ball up the court. While that would have made him an awkward fit with the Raptors in Nick Nurse's plodding, iso-heavy offense last season, he could find some success under new coach Darko Rajakovic. He figures to install a scheme that relies more heavily on ball movement. Schroder hasn't played anything close to a full schedule since 2018-19, so some injuries that cost him time are to be expected. But when he's on the court, he should add an attacking element to the offense the team perhaps hasn't seen since Kyle Lowry was in his prime. Given Schroder's role in Toronto, a usage rate north of 25 percent and an average of around 15 points and five assists a game could be on the table again.
