2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hartenstein has been bouncing around the NBA, landing with the Thunder last season after two consecutive years with the Knicks. It resulted in a title for the center, who started 53 of his 57 regular-season appearances. Many of those starts were next to Chet Holmgren, but both men missed significant time last season, with often only one of them being available. It was a career year for Hartenstein, all things considered, and he averaged 11.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.1 blocks and 0.8 steals in 27.9 minutes. Given Oklahoma City's success, it seems likely Hartenstein will remain in a starting role. However, it's possible both his minutes and usage will decline, assuming more development and better health from Holmgren. Even if that's the case, Hartenstein should remain a top-100 player given his strong per-minute contributions. He's one of the best rebounders in the NBA and is a strong passer for his position. After years of frustration, Hartenstein realized his potential during the 2023-24 season, putting together a career-best campaign. Despite starting the year as the backup behind Mitchell Robinson, Hartenstein started more games than ever thanks to a significant injury to Robinson. Hartenstein ended with averages of 7.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 25.3 minutes per game, good enough for top-75 value. Following his breakout, Hartenstein was signed by the Thunder, a team desperately in need of a big body to play either behind or alongside Chet Holmgren. While his role is a little unclear, it's safe to assume that Hartenstein should see upwards of 25 minutes per game once again. While his ceiling remains capped as long as Holmgren is healthy, there is no reason to think Hartenstein can't flirt with top-100 value. If Oklahoma City decides to start Hartenstein next to Holmgren at any point, the former's short-term value could see a small bump. No matter his assigned role, Hartenstein makes for a viable late-round target, even more so for anyone punting points.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Important decision to come
A $28.5 million team option for Hartenstein will be the Thunder's major decision for next summer, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman opined in his mailbag column on Aug. 6.
ANALYSIS
With the Thunder locking up all three of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams to contract extensions, their financial flexibility is going to be key in the coming years. While Hartenstein was a very impactful player in 2024-25, it will be interesting to see if the Thunder are able to find a way to keep him around. If Hartenstein does sign a deal for a smaller annual salary, Martinez notes that the Thunder may be forced to move on from Luguentz Dort and Kenrich Williams, both of whom have team options as well.
