The Nets waived Wesley on Thursday.

This comes as little surprise after he was acquired earlier this week for Bernard Robison, Mile Ilic and cash. Wesley is now a free agent and could wind up adding depth somewhere else in the coming weeks.

In a deal designed to help long-term financial flexibility, the Hornets traded Cedric Simmons to Cleveland for Wesley. We expect Wesley to be bought out of his contract.
Though he averaged nearly 10 points and around 33 minutes per game in Houston, Wesley was brought in to provide veteran depth as much as anything else. If Larry Hughes stays healthy, and with the Cavs expecting big things eventually from rookie Shannon Brown, Wesley should see no more than about 15-20 mpg, which could lower his production to seven or eight ppg. He doesn't contribute enough in the way of assists or rebounds to be much of a factor in those areas either.
The Rockets signed Derek Anderson, who does a lot of the same things as Wesley and who will cut into his minutes. Still, Wesley could see some time at both guard spot and some points, threes and not a whole lot else while shooting a poor percentage from the field.
Wesley is still the starter in New Orleans for now, and as such, he'll be a decent source of points and threes. Just keep in mind that he shot an abysmal 39 percent from the floor last season, and as a result, rookie J.R. Smith could push him for minutes this season.
Wesley will be the starting shooting guard for the team at the beginning of the season. With a solid 2002-03 season of 16.7 points, 3,4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, he will most likely keep that job. But with the taller, more athletic Courtney Alexander pushing him for his spot, there is a chance that he could lose his starting roll if his production were to decline
