ANALYSIS
For the second year in a row, the Cavaliers will fill an open roster spot in the final week of the regular season by signing Jones, who was previously cut by the team in training camp in favor of DeAndre Liggins. Ironically, it was Liggins who was cut days earlier to clear up the roster spot for Jones, a 36-year-old veteran who will provide the team with some additional depth on the wing. Jones figures to see some run in the regular-season finale Wednesday against the Raptors, but don't expect him to be a fixture in the rotation during the Cavs' playoff run.

Jones spent the bulk of the 2015-16 campaign with the D-League's Grand Rapids Drive before inking a contract with the Cavaliers one day before the regular season concluded. With the Cavs having already clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference by that point, coach Tyronn Lue rested nearly all his rotation players in the finale, enabling Jones to log 42 minutes for an undermanned roster. Jones would see his playing time dry up almost completely during the team's run to its first NBA title, but he played a pivotal role in the Cavs' Game 6 win. With about 90 seconds remaining in the first half, Jones entered the contest and scored five unanswered points while drawing two crucial fouls on the Warriors' Draymond Green to boost the Cavs' lead to 16 at halftime. Despite those heroics, Jones was waived in the summer before his contract for 2016-17 became guaranteed, but the Cavs ultimately re-signed him to a non-guaranteed deal prior to the start of training camp. He'll have to compete with a number of players for the 15th spot on the roster and will likely be out of the rotation most nights if he makes the team.
Jones will be asked to spell Shawn Marion and likely draw a tough defensive assignment. His style of play allows him to do so but it doesn’t always translate well in fantasy circles. When Dallas is at full strength, there are just too many other options to make Jones a fantasy contributor.
Jones is capable of filling in at both wing spots and will get his opportunities whenever head coach Frank Vogel needs to dial up the defense. He doesn’t have a consistent jumper, but has some offense to him, mostly as a slashing finisher.
Jones doesn’t fit coach Jim O’Brien’s ideal shooting guard - a guy that can space the court with the 3-pointer. He can defend, which is in short supply in Indiana, but it’s not enough to earn him a regular gig under O’Brien. If the Pacers could find a taker for Jones, they’d trade him.
Jones frequently started for the Nuggets last year, but don't let that fool you. He was in there for the occasional defensive stop, averaging just 18.1 minutes per game. He'll play a similar role for the Pacers, perhaps playing a smidge more.
The well traveled vet landed in Denver after a solid summer league showing, but his value to the club is still not clear. Jones seems to believe he'll be in the mix for quality minutes. Others tend to think he'll be far down the depth chart getting the occasional 5-10 minutes during blowouts. We think the latter is closer to the truth, but ultimately it will take a full training camp and preseason to really know for sure.
Jones was a late addition to the Celtics' training camp roster, and has only a marginal chance of making the opening night team. Even if he does defy the odds and make the final squad, he will hold no fantasy value this year.
Jones, a third year guard out of Duke, got a bit of playing time last season due to the abundance of Memphis injuries. He responded with a few flashes of decent play, but still enters this season as the odd-man out of the Grizzlies swingman rotations. He is athletic and a good defender, which could ultimately earn him a bit of playing time on the now veteran-laded Grizzlies. Also, if the Grizzlies play more small-ball with Gasol at center and Battier at power forward Jones could see a bit more playing time this season than last.
Jones' range is a big question mark, but he is athletic and plays stellar defense. He'll back up James Posey and Wesley Person at shooting guard.
