Waived by Timberwolves
Hill was waived by the Timberwolves on Monday, Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill's contract was non-guaranteed for next season if he was waived before the end of June, so the move isn't all that unexpected, especially after the Wolves acquired Jimmy Butler via trade on draft night. With Butler in tow and under contract for two more seasons, the Wolves are expected to ramp up their efforts to return to the postseason, which means clearing as much cap space as possible to pursue impact free agents this offseason. The 29-year-old Hill appeared in only seven games for the Wolves in 2016-17 after falling out of favor with coach Tom Thibodeau early in the year.

The 28-year-old served primarily in a reserve role last season for the Pacers, averaging 8.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.7 minutes per game. With his new team, Hill doesn't figure to see his court time increase, as he'll be playing behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng and will have to compete with Cole Aldrich and Nemanja Bjelica for a spot on the second unit. Hill is versatile enough to play both power forward and center, though he doesn't offer enough rim protection to be an asset on the defensive end.

Gets first significant playing time of season
Hill scored four points (2-7 FG) to go with six rebounds and one steal in a season-high 19 minutes during Sunday's 112-100 loss to the Thunder. "I just wanted to get a look at [Hill]," Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "He played very well in the first half for his first time out. His offense and his rebounding is something I wanted to see and he's got experience against [the Thunder], too."
