ANALYSIS
The move put an end to Thompson's tenure with the G League squad, at least for the time being. The 28-year-old battled a hip injury through much of the season, limiting him to five games. In those contests, he averaged 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per contest.

Since winning a roster spot out of training camp in 2013, Thompson has developed into a capable rotation player for the 76ers the last three seasons. The undrafted swingman out of Georgetown is rarely the focal point of the offense when he’s on the court, but as a 39.1 percent career three-point shooter who acquits himself well defensively, Thompson has emerged as a trusted option under coach Brett Brown. Thanks to the numerous injuries that dotted the roster last season, Thompson was able to establish career-high averages in multiple categories, including points (9.8 per game), rebounds (3.5), three-pointers (1.9), assists (1.3) and minutes (28.0). The 76ers bolstered their collection of wings by adding Gerald Henderson and Dario Saric to the mix this offseason, so if health permits, Thompson could see his playing time take a hit in 2016-17. Given the comfort he’s shown with being a peripheral piece in the rotation, Thompson should have no problem adapting to a lessened role on the second unit, though his counting stats would almost certainly take a hit.
