Prigioni announced his retirement from professional basketball Monday via his personal Twitter account.
ANALYSIS
Prigioni was waived by the Rockets prior to the start of the season, and he'll call it a career after failing to draw interest from other teams. The 39-year-old spent the majority of his career overseas before coming to the NBA as a 35-year-old rookie in 2012-13. Prigioni played two-plus seasons with the Knicks before being dealt to Houston in 2014-15. He spent last season with the Clippers, appearing in 59 games and making three starts. In 270 career NBA games, Prigioni holds career averages of 3.5 points, 2.8 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 16.9 minutes per game.

While he enters the 2015-16 season at 38 years old, Prigioni is coming off just his third season in the NBA. The former Euroleague champion played a total of 67 games for the Knicks and Rockets last year, averaging 4.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in 18 minutes per game. Prigioni is now stepping into a reserve role with the Clippers, where he will add depth behind star point guard Chris Paul and backup Austin Rivers. After shooting a respectable 46 percent from the field in his previous two seasons, Prigioni saw his field-goal percentage dip to just 40 percent in 2014-15. While Prigioni can still produce value while on the floor (2.4 steals and 1.7 three-pointers per 36 minutes last season), it appears unlikely he will see fantasy-relevant minutes, particularly as he nears the end of his career. Los Angeles boasts a crowded backcourt, particularly after the offseason acquisition of guard Lance Stephenson. With many candidates to see minutes at the guard positions, Prigioni may not be a major part of the Los Angeles rotation.
