ANALYSIS
A 2018 second-round pick of the Suns, Okobo appeared in 108 games between the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons before being cut loose last November. After spending the 2020-21 campaign with the Nets' G League affiliate, the 23-year-old point guard will head back to his home country to continue his career. He could revisit a return to North America down the road if he impresses over in Europe.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
With the Suns struggling to find a reliable option at the point guard position last season, Okobo, a rookie taken by Phoenix at the top of the second round, ended up playing more minutes than most imagined he would during his first NBA season. Okobo made 53 appearances for the lowly Suns last year and even made 16 starts at point guard. In those 16 starts, Okobo averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists across 25 minutes per game. Unfortunately for Okobo, the Phoenix made an effort to address the point guard woes of last season by signing veteran Ricky Rubio to a three-year, $51 million contract this offseason and drafted former Virginia star Ty Jerome in the first round. They also still have Tyler Johnson on the last year of his contract and traded for young point guard Jevon Carter. As a result, Okobo will likely be buried in the team's point guard rotation for the 2019-20 season, giving him little to no value in his sophomore campaign.
Okobo spent the 2017-18 campaign playing professionally in France for Pau-Orthez, where he finished 36 games with averages of 13.8 points, 4.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 steals across 26.5 minutes. He also shot 48.9 percent from the field and an impressive 41.8 percent from deep, so he should provide the Suns with a threat from all over the floor. Okobo is a combo guard and is expected to be able to play both point guard and shooting guard, though his quickest path to playing time appears to be the former. Phoenix let Elfrid Payton walk in free agency and also waived Tyler Ulis, so Brandon Knight is really the only point guard on the roster with experience. Knight will get first dibs on the top spot, but keep any eye on Okobo later in the season if the Suns opt to prioritize his development over getting a veteran like Knight minutes. Knight is also injury prone and is coming off a torn ACL, so don't be surprised to see Okobo start the year in a fairly significant role in the rotation and he could be in line for even more time if Knight goes down. Fantasy owners may want to temper expectations for him as he transitions to the NBA, but Okobo is at least someone to keep an eye on as training camp approaches.
