Past Fantasy Outlooks
McGuire joined the Warriors just prior to the start of exhibition games and, once up to speed, will back up Dorell Wright at small forward. His addition is a nod toward head coach Mark Jackson’s proclamation to become a better defensive team. McGuire can rebound some, but will do little more than play 15 minutes of good defense per night.
Looking to add depth to their front line, the Bobcats brought in McGuire to fill a reserve role. He should only see limited minutes off of the bench.
McGuire, a versatile player who can play power forward, small forward and even shooting guard, was another one of the young Wizards players that benefited greatly from the team's injuries in 2008-09, as he wound up taking over as the team's small forward when the Wizards moved Butler to shooting guard when Stevenson was lost for the season. McGuire is a very good defensive player that will contribute in hustle categories, but not in terms of scoring. McGuire will most likely go back to the bench in a much more limited role as a spot defensive stopper this season.
A second-round pick in 2007, McGuire managed to see action in 70 games, but only scored a little over one point per game. He has done pretty well thus far in summer league play, but still isn’t ready to make an impact.
The second-round pick performed well enough in the Las Vegas Summer League (12.0 ppg and 6.2 rpg in five games) to earn a guaranteed contract with the Wizards. GM Ernie Grunfeld describes him as "extremely athletic, very competitive and is a good rebounder. Dominic is a solid overall defensive player who plays with great energy." In other words, a youngster who is likely bound for garbage time minutes as a rookie unless a slew of injuries hit.
