Signs two-year deal with Real Madrid

Randolph signed a two-year contract Thursday with Spanish club Real Madrid, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Randolph, who last appeared in the NBA with the Nuggets in 2013-14, had drawn interest from the Mavericks following a strong showing in the Euroleague with Russian club PBC Lokomotiv-Kuban this past season. Any offer the Mavericks may have extended likely wasn't as lucrative as what European clubs could provide, so Randolph will head to Spain to continue his career. The 26-year-old's deal reportedly includes an NBA opt-out clause, so the possibility exists that he could resurface in North America at some point down the road.

He averaged under 10 minutes per game last season, and with the additions the team has made to the frontcourt this offseason, it appears unlikely that he will be receiving anymore time than that this year.
A true wildcard on this team that is going to have to show-and-prove in camp if he’s going to earn minutes behind Faried. It’s more than likely that the club will just choose to go small most of the time using Koufos at the four when they need more size.
Randolph began last season with high hopes he'd find a regular role with the Knicks, but his inconsistency frustrated head coach Mike D'Antoni and he was soon relegated to the bench. He was later traded to the Timberwolves as part of the Carmelo Anthony deal, but didn't land a consistent role. He averaged a career high 11.7 ppg, but started only three games and averaged 20.1 minutes per game. He did produce when given minutes as he he had five double-doubles in nine games when playing over 20 minutes. It's not clear where he fits into Minnesota's plans this season, but it's possible he could win significant minutes at power forward. He's a tremendous athlete, runs the floor very well and has excellent size (6-10). He'll just be 22 years old this season, so there's still time for him to develop into the star we've seen glimpses of so far his career.
After years of hype – and then disappointment – in Golden State, Randolph would be a classic post-hype sleeper this season. One problem. He arrived in New York – hype's world capital – and will be playing in Mike D'Antoni's "seven seconds or less" offense this season, so he's getting even more attention than he ever did in Golden State. And rightly so. Randolph has shown elite potential in his first two NBA seasons. He's a tremendous athlete, runs the floor very well and has excellent size (6-10) – and though he's entering his third year in the league, he only recently became old enough to buy a beer at Madison Square Garden. He's also an excellent shot-blocker, with the potential to put up Josh Smith-type numbers in that category – 1.5 blocks/game in just 22.7 minutes last season. His position is unclear, but there have been some indications that the Knicks intend to use Randolph at small forward, as part of a super-sized starting lineup with Amar'e Stoudemire at the four and Danilo Gallinari at off guard. Even if he doesn't crack the starting lineup, look for Randolph to play significant, regular minutes – which would be a major change from what we've seen in his first two NBA seasons.
After a slow start to his rookie season, Randolph really came on down the stretch, averaging 15.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game over the season’s final month. Considering he was just 19 years old and did that damage in limited action (32 mpg), there’s huge upside here. Randolph carried that strong finish over to the Vegas summer league, where he absolutely dominated. At 6-10, 205, he still needs to bulk up, but the super-athletic power forward is a terrific fit for Golden State’s uptempo style. The Warriors are in the middle of a youth movement, so even though coach Don Nelson’s rotations can be maddening, Randolph figures to be a big part of the team’s plans.
Randolph, the Warriors' 1st round pick in this year's draft (14th overall) has the potential to step in and be a rotation player in his rookie year. At 6-10", he can handle the ball, shoot the three, rebound and play both small forward and power forward. Randolph will start the year backing up Harrington and Wright, but could play a bigger role if Harrington gets traded.
