A.J. Price

Price received increased playing time at the point guard position with starter John Wall missing significant time a knee injury at the beginning of the season. He resumed backup duties upon Wall's return. Health concerns also plagued Price in the 2012-13 campaign, as he missed time with hand, thigh and groin injuries over the course of the season. He'll try to win a role as the third point guard, but he may not make the final roster and won't get many minutes off the bench without injuries if he sticks.

Price might be the heir apparent in terms of playing time with Wall out due to injury. Signed as an unrestricted free agent in the summer, he is looking to revive his career after his role diminished with the Pacers the last two seasons. Price will get his shot, but the team's addition of Jannero Pargo just before the start of training camp will give Price competition for minutes.

Price was mostly the third point guard on the Pacers last season, getting a slight bump in minutes when T.J. Ford was let go mid-season. He’s a point guard in size only, as Price’s first instinct is to shoot. And he doesn’t do that very well. With the addition of George Hill, the Pacers have a couple of point guards that will gobble up most of the available minutes.

Price bobbed in and out of the playing rotation last season, particularly during T.J. Ford’s mid-season benching. He took a lot of shots for a point guard and wasn’t a particularly effective shooter, before losing minutes to the un-benched Ford. He’ll get third-string minutes this season.

The Pacers took Price in the second round in this year's draft out of Connecticut. There's some question whether he has the size or athleticism to handle the NBA. He'll almost certainly be chained to the end of the bench, given the Pacers' guard depth.
