Career high 14 dimes
GRio Grande Valley Vipers   G League (Rockets)

Wroten amassed 10 points (4-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-6 FT), 14 assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block during Thursday's 134-129 win over Santa Cruz.
ANALYSIS
As he was only averaging 3.2 assists prior, Wroten's career high 14 assists Thursday came out of nowhere, as he was able to produce his second double-double this season. The 6-5 guard from Washington is adding 10.6 points and 3.6 assists per contest over 34 games played for Rio Valley Grande.

Wroten suffered a partially torn right ACL in January that required season-ending surgery, limiting him to just 30 games in his third season. He started the first 15 games while Michael Carter-Williams was out rehabbing from offseason shoulder surgery, and even though Wroten didn't technically qualify for the distinction, he led the team in scoring with 16.9 points per game while also averaging 5.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 three-pointers in 30 minutes per game. Not one for the analytics crowd, Wroten showed no improvement in his overall shooting, converting 40 percent of his shots, 26 percent of his three-pointers, and 67 percent of his free throws. He's a career 23 percent three-point shooter and holds the single-season record for worst percentage among players with 125 attempts from downtown, but Wroten also led the league with 8.1 points per game on drives to the basket last season, besting the likes of James Harden, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook. Aside from his one elite skill, getting to the rim at will, the 21-year-old guard exhibits minimal NBA talent. He's prone to poor decision making, unnecessarily flashy play, forced passes, and going full speed at all times, even when it's unwarranted. Wroten is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and he plans to be ready for the start of the season, but he's returning from an injury that typically requires two years to get back to peak performance.
Tony Wroten is entering his third season in the NBA, and his second season with the 76ers. Last season, he averaged 13.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.2 blocks, 0.6 threes, and 2.8 turnovers in 25 minutes per game through 72 games played. He shot 43 percent from the field on 11.2 attempts per game, 64 percent from the free-throw line on 4.5 attempts per game, and 21 percent from three-point territory on 2.6 attempts per game. In the 16 games Wroten started, usually at point guard in place of Michael Carter-Williams, Wroten's averages increased to 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.1 three-pointers made in 34 minutes per game. Carter-Williams will continue as the 76ers' starting point guard, but James Anderson, who started 58 games last season at shooting guard, was waived in June, opening the possibility that Wroten could climb into the starting lineup. Jason Richardson's unreliable health should force Hollis Thompson into the starting small forward role, which, coupled with Andersons' departure, leaves a potential opening for Wroten at shooting guard. He'll have to compete with newcomer Alexey Shved and rookie K.J. McDaniels for that starting role, but based on his performance last season, Wroten may enter that competition with an advantage, albeit only a slight one. Wroten is turnover prone and an inefficient shooter, especially from three-point range, but he provides good per-minute value in points, rebounds, and assists.
Wroten was traded to the Sixers in the offseason, after the Grizzlies gave up on his potential as a combo-guard. The sophomore did not prove his worth last season, arguably because he did not get the opportunity. It's too early to predict if Wroten will be able to transform into a viable role player in the league, but he certainly will have the opportunity to do so with the Sixers, with the shooting guard spot wide open for the taking.
Wroten was the Grizzlies’ sole selection in the 2012 Draft. He won Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Honors on the heels of averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game in his only year at the University of Washington. Wroten is a much more adept passer than shooter at this point in his career and he is a few years away from having an impact in the NBA.
