Personal Bio

Thanasis Rotimi Antetokounmpo was born in Athens in 1992. As the second of five sons to Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo, Thanasis comes from a basketball family. He is teammates in Milwaukee with his brother Giannis, who is the reigning Most Valuable Player of the Eastern Conference (2018-19). Their brother Kostas currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. Alexander, the youngest in the family, is attending Domenican High School in Milwaukee and is a member of their basketball team. In 2016, Antetokounmpo played with Andorra of the Spanish ACB, appearing in 34 games and averaging 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 46.0 percent from the field. The next year, he managed 67 games with Panathinaikos in both EuroLeague and Greek Basket League action, and was named the Greek Basket League's Most Spectacular Player after averaging 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 13.7 minutes while shooting 55.8 percent from the field. You can follow Thanasis Antetokounmpo on Twitter and Instagram @Thanasis_ante43.

College/International Summary

Antetokounmpo joined his younger brother Giannis on Filathlitikos as he moved through the Greek leagues. He played on the fourth-division team in 2010-11 and played with his sibling for the third-division Greek team in 2011-12. The 6-7 forward turned pro for 2012-13 in the Greek second division at Filathlitikos where he provided 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Antetokounmpo played in the 2013 Greek League All-Star Game and competed in the slam dunk contest. He declared for the 2013 Draft, but withdrew and returned to Filathlitikos. He played in four games for the Greek team and averaged 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 30.0 minutes before moving to the D-League.

Antetokounmpo finished Wednesday's win over the Grizzlies with one point (0-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-4 FT), six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Antetokounmpo has played a larger role this season than most anticipated, and Wednesday marked his fifth straight game seeing at least 18 minutes. Of course, the absence of his younger brother has been a major factor of late, but Antetokounmpo is averaging nearly 15 minutes per game in 16 appearances since the break. Occasionally, Antetokounmpo can make for a reasonable DFS flyer -- he posted 23 points, 10 boards, five assists and two steals against the Knicks on March 27 -- but for the most part, he can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2015
2014
Drafted by the Knicks in the second round last year, Antetokounmpo spent last season in the D-League, where he averaged 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks in 33 minutes per game. At 6-7, 215 pounds, Antetokounmpo boasts freakish athleticism and a non-stop motor that allows him to excel on the defensive end. In fact, the 23-year-old earned Second Team All-Defensive honors in the D-League last season. While that defensive mentality is undoubtedly Antetokounmpo's calling card heading into training camp, his offensive game is incredibly raw and mostly reliant on his leaping ability around the rim. Such limitations have inhibited Antetokounmpo from being considered an NBA-level player, which he'll need to prove he is in order to make the Knicks' regular season roster. Obviously still developing, Antetokounmpo probably won't receive enough minutes this season to warrant fantasy ownership in the vast majority of leagues.
The 6-7, 215 pound Greek forward was selected 51st overall in this year's draft after playing 50 games for the D-League's Delaware 87ers last season. Despite averages of 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 29 minutes per game, Antetokounmpo is still seen as a raw prospect that requires further development in order to crack an NBA rotation. With that in mind, the 22-year-old may spend the upcoming season overseas to gain more consistent playing time against competition superior to what the D-League offers. While going abroad is ultimately the expectation for Antetokounmpo during his rookie season, he will attend the Knicks' training camp this fall before a final decision on his future whereabouts is made.
