Personal Bio

Dwayne Lee Bacon Jr. was born in 1995 in Lakeland, Florida to Dwayne Bacon Sr. and Kennie Crawford. He played his first two high school seasons at hometown McKeel Academy of Technology and averaged 21 points, seven assists, and three steals as a sophomore. Bacon moved to the IMG Academy for his junior year and led the team in scoring with 19.3 points per game. He transferred for his senior season to the Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and starred on a club that went 45-0 by averaging 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 steals. Thanks to his efforts, Bacon was named a McDonald's All-American, Jordan Brand Classic All-Star and a Parade All-American first team member. He also won the Slam Dunk Contest at the McDonald's All-American Games. You can follow Bacon on Twitter (@BaconDwayne1000) and Instagram (@dbacon).

College/International Summary

Under coach Leonard Hamilton, Florida State has been known for its defense. Bacon brought some offense to the Seminoles in his two seasons. He opened his collegiate career by putting up a combined 50 points in a pair of wins. He would score at least 20 points in 12 games, but the Seminoles suffered a five-game losing streak in February in the tough ACC that took them out of NCAA Tournament contention. Bacon averaged 15.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. After the season, he decided to test his draft stock before returning to the Seminoles for a second season. He should not have regretted the decision because he was impressive as a sophomore. The 6-foot-7 guard was more consistent and provided 17.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. He even got a taste of the Big Dance. The Seminoles beat Florida Gulf Coast in the first round of the NCAA Tournament behind 25 points and nine boards from Bacon. He concluded his two-year career with 20 points in the loss to Xavier in the Round of 32. Bacon declared for the 2017 draft and signed with an agent soon after his declaration to cement the decision. He was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the 40th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and was later traded to the Charlotte Hornets on draft night.

Struggles from field in loss
FOrlando Magic
May 13, 2021
Bacon managed five points (2-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), one rebound, one assist and one steal in 19 minutes during Thursday's 116-93 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old has cooled down considerably, totaling just 10 total points over his last two games after averaging 19.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals over his first five games in the month of May. Despite his recent rough stretch, Bacon is averaging career highs in points, rebounds, and three-pointers through 70 games this season. The fourth-year guard will look to bounce back Friday on the road against the 76ers.

2019

Bacon appeared in 39 of a possible 65 games for the Hornets during the shortened 2019-20 season. It was his third season in the Association. Bacon averaged 5.7 points, a career-high 2.6 rebounds, a career-high 1.3 assists and a career-high 0.6 steals per game from 17.6 minutes per contest. The 6-foot-6 wing shot 34.8 percent from the field and 28.4 percent from three-point land while hitting 0.5 three-pointers per contest. Bacon set a new single-game career high with 25 points on Nov. 2 in a road win over the Warriors. During the victory, Bacon started and shot 10-of-21 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line while also contributing six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 37 minutes. Bacon had three 20-point games, seven games with at least five rebounds and seven games with at least three assists. The 24-year-old also played in nine G League games for the Greensboro Swarm, during which he averaged 31.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 3.1 three-pointers and 0.7 steals over 38.5 minutes per G League contest. On Feb. 19 with the Swarm, Bacon exploded for 51 points, nine boards, three dimes, two thefts and one block during a win over Fort Wayne.

2018

During the 2018-19 season, Dwayne Bacon improved his ability to score at the NBA level. Bacon's per 36 minute scoring average improved to 15.0 points, up from 8.8 during his rookie 2017-18 season. Bacon drastically improved both his field goal and three point shooting. His overall field goal percentage improved from 38 to 48 percent. Similarly, his accuracy from behind the arc increased from 26 to 44 percent. Maybe the improved shooting was developed by Bacon through his G League experience. Bacon played in four games for the G League Swarm in 2017-18 and 17 games in 2018-19. The 23-year-old shined during the end of the season, playing in all of Charlotte's last 18 games. Over that span, Bacon averaged 11.4 points, 2.8 boards and 1.4 made threes per contest. On Mar. 26, the shooting guard scored a career-high 24 points during a home win over the Spurs.

2017

Bacon was selected 40th overall in the 2017 Draft. He appeared in 53 NBA games and started six of them. Bacon also started four G-League contests with the Greensboro Swarm. At the G-League level, he averaged 26.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on 42.3 percent shooting. With the Hornets, Bacon finished with averages of 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds on 37.5 percent shooting. In just his second career game, he pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds against the Hawks. The Florida State product posted five double-digit scoring games. Three of those came during a five-game stretch to start November. During that span, Bacon averaged nine points and four rebounds on 47.4 percent shooting and scored a season-high 18 points against the Spurs. He'd later turn in a pair of 15-point performances in March.

Bacon appeared in just 43 games for Charlotte last season, averaging 17.7 minutes per tilt while he split time with the Hornets' G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm. The Florida State product provided excellent shooting in limited action, producing career highs in field goal percentage (47.5) and three-point percentage (43.7). He closed the season on a high note with solid play as a starter over the final 12 games. In those games, he averaged 12.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 threes on 46.8 percent shooting from the field and 42.9 percent shooting from three. With Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb gone, Bacon could be in line for production and minutes similar to his end-of-season averages, which would make him a fantasy-relevant pickup in 2019-20 in deeper formats. He will compete for playing time with Malik Monk, Terry Rozier, Nicolas Batum and Devonte' Graham, but the rotation on this rebuilding Hornets team does not yet have clarity.
Bacon is a 6-foot-7, 22-year-old from Florida State who averaged 26.5 points per game with the Greensboro Swarm last season (Hornets G League affiliate). When given the opportunity, Bacon has the ability to score, illustrated with an 18-point outing against the Spurs last season. He also has good court vision and can feed the ball to seemingly anyone at any given time, while showing off a soft touch inside the arc. He'll likely have a bench spot with the Hornets this season considering Bacon did receive 13.5 minutes with the Hornets over 53 games last year, so the team isn't afraid to use him as long as he keeps developing.
The Oak Hill Academy product had quite the career at Florida State, as he averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steal in his two collegiate seasons. While he slipped to the second-round, Bacon is an excellent scorer, and he'll work to carve out a minor bench role as a rookie. With Nic Batum, Jeremy Lamb and Malik Monk ahead of him, however, Bacon's rookie season will likely be a developmental year, first and foremost.
