Kurucs appeared in 47 out of a possible 72 games for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2019-20 pandemic-shortened campaign. It was Kurucs second season in the Association and he earned nine starts. The 21-year-old averaged 4.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 14.6 minutes per NBA game. The young Latvian also appeared in nine G League games, mostly in November and December, for the Long Island Nets. With Long Island, Kurucs generated 12.0 points, 6.4 boards, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per G League contest. On Jan. 10 with Brooklyn, during a four-point win over the Heat, Kurucs scored a season-high 19 points (7-9 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT). That performance marked one of Kurucs' four double-digit scoring efforts of the campaign. Kurucs' other season highs were set at nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block. The forward had his best extended stretch of the campaign over eight games from Dec. 30 through Jan. 14. Across that span, he averaged 7.4 points -- 53.5 FG%, 42.1 3Pt% -- 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 17.7 minutes. Following the NBA's hiatus due to COVID-19, the Nets were one of the 22 teams invited to participate in the restart in the Orlando bubble. Kurucs participated in all eight seeding games and averaged of 6.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assist and 1.0 steal in 22.9 minutes per game. Selected with the 40th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Rodions Kurucs quickly become a solid contributor with the Brooklyn Nets. He appeared in only 11 of the team's first 28 games and averaged 12.4 minutes per game during that span. Then, a strong December led to Kurucs starting 46 games on the year. During a 13-game stretch in December and January, the 6-foot-9 Latvian scored 11.8 points per game along with 4.2 rebounds and 49.1 percent shooting (plus 40.5 percent from beyond the arc). That span also featured the two double-doubles he posted during the season as well as his two highest scoring games (24 points in each). In March, the rookie forward had five consecutive games with double-digit scoring, his longest such streak of the year. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, one block, and one steal on 58.1 percent shooting during that streak. For the season, he averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the field. Kurucs also suited up for a handful of G-League games with the Long Island Nets. While he wasn't as effective in the postseason, he did score 14 points and grab seven rebounds in the series finale, a loss to the 76ers.

The Cavaliers acquired Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince. The Nets acquired James Harden and a 2024 second-round pick. The Pacers acquired Caris LeVert and two future second-round picks.
