2019 Fantasy Outlook
Kurucs ended up enjoying a robust role for a second-round pick last season, as the now-21-year-old averaged 20.5 minutes over 63 games, with 46 of those starting assignments. The second-year pro from Latvia brought some Euroleague experience into the NBA, which may have helped lay the foundation for a solid start to his professional career stateside. Kurucs finished with 8.5 points (on 45.0 percent shooting) and 3.9 rebounds across 20.5 minutes last season, filling in at both forward spots. Kurucs finished off the postseason with a 14-point, seven-rebound effort over 15 minutes in Game 5 against the 76ers in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals and then followed it up with averages of 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals across 24.5 minutes over six games in Las Vegas Summer League play. Looking ahead to the coming season, Kurucs should be in for at least a slight increase in playing time, although a solid veteran in Wilson Chandler does slot in behind him on the depth chart and should see his fair share of opportunity. Kurucs still figures to be no better than a fourth option in the offense when the starting five is at full health, however. D'Angelo Russell has been swapped out for an equally high-usage asset in Kyrie Irving, while DeAndre Jordan now joins Jarrett Allen down low and figures to gobble up plenty of the frontcourt's rebounding opportunities. Meanwhile, highly capable wings Joe Harris and Caris LeVert figure to command a robust allotment of shot attempts as well, leaving Kurucs with some, but not an abundance, of opportunity to upgrade his rookie-season numbers. Personal Bio

Rodions Kurucs was born in 1998 in the northeastern Latvian city of Cesis, which is famous for the Cesis Castle. His basketball career started in Latvia with VEF Riga's youth academy, VEF Riga Skola. In 2014, Kurucs signed a multi-year deal with VEF Riga and played in Latvia's second men's division (LBL2). That led to his 2014-2015 debut playing for VEF's first team in the LBL as well as the EuroCup. Then in the summer of 2015, the lanky Latvian signed with the popular Spanish franchise FC Barcelona. He would eventually make his EuroLeague debut on Mar. 24th, 2017 in a home win over Crvena zvezda Belgrade. After another season with Barcelona, Kurucs would declare for the 2018 NBA Draft. He has played on a few different Latvian national teams, including the entry in the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifying games.

College/International Summary

Rodions Kurucs spent his mid-teen years with VEF Riga as part of Latvia's second men's division. As a 15-year-old, he played in 10 games and averaged 3.2 points. The following season, he showed plenty of potential by scoring 19.6 points and 6.1 rebounds in 19 games for Riga. Kurucs showed his willingness to take long range shots and converted 31.3 percent of his 3-pointers for 2.2 treys per game. In 2015, he played in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament. Later in 2015, The 6-9 forward then moved to FC Barcelona and spent his first season with the reserve team, Barcelona B. In the 2016-17 season, he averaged 9.5 points per contest over 24 games. In 2017-18, as a 19-year-old, he split time between FC Barcelona's top team and minor league team, though his playing time Barcelona's top team was modest. He appeared in 26 games (five starts) for FC Barcelona and FC Barcelona II in LEB Gold, ACB and Euroleague play, averaging 7.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 15 minutes per game. His athletic build and 6-foot-10 size drew interest from NBA scouts and Kurucs declared himself available for the 2018 NBA Draft.

ANALYSIS
Brooklyn got off to a woefully slow start in Game 1, so coach Jacque Vaughn will mix things up and insert Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot at forward, while Kurucs moves to the bench. In 16 minutes in Game 1, Kurucs finished with six points, six boards and two assists.

On Jan. 10 with Brooklyn, during a four-point win over the Heat, Kurucs scored a season-high 19 points (7-9 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT). That performance marked one of Kurucs' four double-digit scoring efforts of the campaign. Kurucs' other season highs were set at nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block. 2018

Selected with the 40th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Rodions Kurucs quickly become a solid contributor with the Brooklyn Nets. He appeared in only 11 of the team's first 28 games and averaged 12.4 minutes per game during that span. Then, a strong December led to Kurucs starting 46 games on the year. During a 13-game stretch in December and January, the 6-foot-9 Latvian scored 11.8 points per game along with 4.2 rebounds and 49.1 percent shooting (plus 40.5 percent from beyond the arc). That span also featured the two double-doubles he posted during the season as well as his two highest scoring games (24 points in each). In March, the rookie forward had five consecutive games with double-digit scoring, his longest such streak of the year. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, one block, and one steal on 58.1 percent shooting during that streak. For the season, he averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the field. Kurucs also suited up for a handful of G-League games with the Long Island Nets. While he wasn't as effective in the postseason, he did score 14 points and grab seven rebounds in the series finale, a loss to the 76ers.
