Kelan Martin

Kelan Martin was born in Boston in 1995. Martin's father, Kenneth, was a star at Ballard High School in Louisville, and he won an NCAA Division II championship at Kentucky Wesleyan University. Kelan's mother, Kristie, also starred at Ballard and moved on to play collegiate basketball at Western Kentucky University. Unsurprisingly, young Kelan carried forth the family's strong Ballard High tradition. As a junior, he averaged 19.1 points and 10.2 rebounds while helping Ballard to a state runner-up finish. Martin achieved true star status in his senior year, as he averaged 22.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, finishing as a finalist for Kentucky's "Mr. Basketball" honors. Martin spent four years (2014-2018) at Butler University, helping the Bulldogs make an appearance at the NCAA Tournament every year he was on the roster. As a freshman, Martin appeared in 34 games off the bench, averaging 7.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest. Martin made the first 14 starts of his collegiate career as a sophomore, playing in 33 games and averaging 15.7 points with 6.8 rebounds per contest. Those numbers earned him the distinction of being a Second-Team All-Big East selection. Martin started 22 of the 34 games he played in as a junior, averaging 16.0 points per game on his way to being named to All-Big East Second Team for the second straight year. Martin's senior year proved to be his best. He started every one of the 35 games he played in, averaging 21.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest on his way to a Unanimous All-Big East First Team selection as well as an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American. He was eligible for the 2018 NBA Draft and went undrafted, but he later signed with the Utah Jazz to participate in that year's NBA Summer League.
