In his second year in the Association, Edwards appeared in 31 of Boston's 72 games, with one start. On Jan. 24, the second-year guard tied his career-high with 18 points and grabbed a career-best five rebounds during a home win over Cleveland. On Feb. 5, the Purdue product posted 16 points, four rebounds and two assists over 30 minutes in a road win over the Clippers. Two nights later, Edwards received his lone start of the season and recorded two points, one rebound and one steal over 17 minutes of play in a loss at Phoenix. For the season, Edwards scored in double digits in five games. He had 10 games in which he played at least 12 minutes. For the season, Edwards delivered 4.0 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.2 steals over 8.9 minutes per game. He shot 42.3 percent from the field and 84.6 percent from the charity stripe. Edwards hit 0.6 three-pointers per game and shot 28.6 percent from behind the arc. After being selected by Boston in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft, Edwards appeared in 37 games for the Celtics and 13 for the G League's Maine Red Claws during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season. The rookie averaged 3.3 points, 0.6 assists, and 0.3 steals over 9.5 minutes per game for the Celtics. It took him just two NBA games to score in double digits for the first time in his career, as he posted 10 points along with three assists and two steals against the Knicks on Oct. 26. On Nov. 13, the Purdue product turned in his best game of the year, posting 18 points with four rebounds, three assists and four three-pointers against Washington. Edwards starred during his stint in the G League, averaging 23.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 2.8 made three-pointers across 34.3 minutes per game. On Feb. 1, Edwards popped for 41 points, five rebounds, three dimes and two steals, helping the Red Claws to a win over Greensboro. The Celtics were one of 22 teams invited to the Orlando bubble for seeding and subsequent playoff games. Edwards appeared in two seeding games, playing a total of nearly 35 minutes and delivering a combined total of 15 points, three three-pointers, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. The rookie made his NBA playoff debut Sept. 7 in Game 5 of the second round against Toronto, pulling down a rebound in 3:28 of action.
