Personal Bio

Tyler Cook was born on September 23, 1997 in St. Louis, Missouri. The son of Trent and Stephanie Cook, Tyler played high school basketball at Chaminade College Preparatory School alongside Celtics star Jayson Tatum. As senior, Cook helped lead Chaminade to a state championship, scoring 17 points in the title game. In 2015, Cook announced his commitment to the University of Iowa and coach Fran McCaffery.

College/International Summary

Cook was named to the 2018-19 All Big Ten second team as a junior. In addition, the forward garnered an All Big Ten honorable mention nod in his sophomore year (2017-18) and was placed on the 2016-17 Big Ten All-Freshman squad. He helped lead the Hawkeyes to the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. In his junior year, he was fourth in the Big Ten in two-point field goals (174) and two-point field goal attempts (335). The St. Louis, Missouri native was also sixth in field goal percentage (.510) and free throw attempts (202) in the conference. Along with two-point field goals, two-point field goal attempts and free throw attempts, Cook led Iowa in his junior year in points (478), points per game (14.5), rebounds (252), defensive rebounds (181), offensive rebounds (71) and field goals (174). Cook announced that he would enter the 2019 NBA Draft after his junior year at Iowa. He went undrafted and signed a contract with the Denver Nuggets during the summer of 2019.

ANALYSIS
With the Pistons resting a number of regulars for a game they have no interest in winning, Cook will move into the lineup at one forward spot for the first start of his NBA career. The former Iowa standout hasn't played much of a role this season, though he has did see 21 and 15 minutes, respectively, over the last two games. In Saturday's loss to Washington, Cook posted five points and four rebounds off the bench.

Cook went unclaimed in the 2019 NBA Draft, but he was able to catch on with the Nuggets prior to the season via a two-way contract. But the Nuggets waived Cook in mid-October and he was claimed off waivers by the Cavaliers. Cook then played in 11 games off the bench for Cleveland, averaging 1.7 points and 0.9 rebounds in 3.2 minutes per game. Cook was waived by Cleveland in early January, but the signed back-to-back 10-day contracts with with the Cavs. On Feb. 17, while with Cleveland's G League squad, the Canton Charge, he was traded to the G League Oklahoma City Blue. Then, on June 30th, Cook signed a two-way contract with the Nuggets while the league was on pause for the coronavirus pandemic. He went on to appear in two games for Denver during the Orlando bubble, averaging 2.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 9.5 minutes. His playing time was significantly more plentiful in the G League, where he appeared in 29 games split between the Canton Charge and Oklahoma City Blue, averaging 12.9 points with 5.7 rebounds on 58.2 percent shooting. At the NBA level, Cook scored a season-high four points on three separate occasions. One of those games came Aug. 14 with the Nuggets, when he added four rebounds and two steals -- both season highs. Cook made his NBA playoff debut in Game 2 of the first round against Houston, pulling down two rebounds in just over four minutes.
