Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Jason Preston was born in Orlando, Florida in August of 1999. Preston was raised by his mom until she passed away when he was a junior in high school. Preston's aunt and uncle living in Jamaica became his legal guardians. Preston played for William R. Boone High School in Orlando but averaged only two points per game across two seasons. He applied to the University of Central Florida standing at six feet tall and 140 pounds, as a regular student. After competing in an AAU circuit, Preston decided to attend Believe Prep Academy in Athens, Tennessee. While there, he grew four inches, put up 12 points, nine assists and seven rebounds a game, and led his team to a 31-8 record. He posted his highlight tape from Believe Prep Academy on Twitter and received an offer from the University of Ohio which he accepted. Preston made the MAC All-Freshman Team after putting up six points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. As a sophomore, Preston became the second player in team history to record a triple-double after he recorded 15 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds against Miami (Ohio). He made the All-MAC Second Team and was second in the nation in assists. As a junior, Preston averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. He recorded his second triple-double on January 23rd, 2021, against Ball State. Preston was named the MVP of the MAC Conference Tournament and led Ohio to a 2021 NCAA March Madness Tournament berth. Preston recorded 11 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists, leading Ohio (13 seed) to a 62-58 upset of Virginia (4 seed). Preston received All-MAC First Team following his junior season performance and declared for the draft. Preston was selected as the 33rd overall pick by the Magic but was traded to the Clippers.

Preston chipped in six points (3-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four rebounds, six assists and one steal across 17 minutes during Friday's 131-102 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Preston spent a couple of weeks back in the G league but he returned to the Jazz. and put up a solid total in garbage time. The Ohio product failed to catch on with the Clippers, but he's enjoyed a productive career in the G League and definitely has the skills to jump to the next level. His future with the Jazz will largely depend on Jordan Clarkson (back) and Collin Sexton's contracts for 2024-25.

Preston has been a stellar floor general for the Hustle this season, orchestrating the offense while scoring efficiently at a 51.1 percent clip. He's also chipping in 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Cut by the Clippers during training camp, Preston hasn't been able to crack the Grizzlies' rotation despite a serious rash of injuries striking the backcourt this season. His window for a promotion is set to slam shut in the coming days as well, with Ja Morant eligible to return from suspension Dec. 19.

Preston was selected by the Clippers with the 33rd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. One of the most incredible stories in a long time, Preston, who barely saw the floor as a high-school senior, averaging under 2.5 points per game, has made it to the NBA. However, Preston will still need to earn a roster spot on a Clippers team that is built to win now and is already loaded with talent at the guard position. The 6-foot-4, 187-pound guard averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists with the Ohio Bobcats last year.
