Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Aaron Daniel Wiggins was born in January of 1999 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is the son of Serena and Tim Wiggins. While growing up, Wiggins had interests beyond just sports and he spent time in high school playing the piano and trombone along with acting in school plays. The guard began playing high school basketball at Grimsley High School before transferring to Wesleyan Christian Academy where he averaged 15.1 points and was named an NCISAA Class 3A All-State selection in his senior season. During this time, Wiggins also played on the AAU circuit for Team Charlotte and averaged 15 points and seven rebounds en route to an AAU Super Showcase title. In 2017, Wiggins committed to play for Maryland and appeared in all 34 of the team's games during his freshman season while playing 23.5 minutes-per-game -- the most of any reserve player on the team. He also averaged 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds and led the team in three-point percentage with 41.3 percent. Wiggins followed this up with a 2020 Big Ten Conference Sixth Man of the Year award in his sophomore season. As a junior, he averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists and earned 2021 Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors. In April of 2021, Wiggins declared for the 2021 NBA Draft. He was selected with the 55th overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder and was the second-leading scorer on the team's NBA Summer League roster, averaging 11.2 points. In August of 2021, Wiggins signed a two-way contract with the Thunder and their NBA G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. Fans can follow Wiggins on Twitter @Aaron_Wiggins_.

Could see increased minutes
GOklahoma City Thunder
September 1, 2022
Wiggins is among the players that might be in line for a bigger role due to the season-ending Lisfranc injury sustained by Chet Holmgren, Josh Haar of Daily Thunder speculates.
ANALYSIS Holmgren was expected to be a starter from Day 1 and with him out of the picture, the Thunder need to find a way to re-distribute frontcourt minutes. Wiggins already showed flashes of his potential during last season and could be in line for a bigger role in what's going to be his second year in The Association. He averaged 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a rookie.
Wiggins got more playing time in his rookie season than is usually expected from a late second-round pick, averaging 24.2 minutes per contest over 50 games. His overall stat line -- 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 three-pointers and 0.6 steals -- won't turn many heads, but Wiggins didn't sink in any area, shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 72.9 percent from the charity stripe while averaging just over one turnover per contest. The primary knock on Wiggins is his lack of a consistent outside shot, and his 30.4 percent mark from deep last season suggests that he has work to do in that area if he is to become more than a role player. The Thunder expressed their pleasure with Wiggins' early development by converting his two-way contract to a four-year deal in February, so he figures to at least have a shot at playing meaningful minutes next season. However, OKC has a stable of young talent and only so much playing time to hand out. Wiggins could as easily see his role lessen in his second campaign.
Wiggins was selected by the Thunder with the 55th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he inked a two-way deal. The Thunder elected to add some depth at the guard position by choosing a great 3-and-D player in Wiggins. The 22-year-old averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals in his final collegiate season at Maryland. In signing a two-way deal, Wiggins will spend much of the upcoming season in the G League.
