Inks contract with Turkish squad
Cotton signed a contract Saturday with Anadolu Efes S.K. of the Turkish Basketball Super League, Hoops Hype reports.
ANALYSIS
Cotton was hopeful to earn a guaranteed contract from an NBA team on the strength of his quality summer league performance with the Hawks, during which he averaged 12.8 points, 2.6 rebound and 1.4 assists over 19.6 minutes per game in his five appearances while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point land. Any offers he might have received apparently weren't enticing enough, however, as Cotton will opt to head overseas in 2016-17. Given that he's just 24 years old and saw action in eight games with the Suns and Grizzlies a year earlier, there's still time for Cotton to resurface at the NBA level.

Cotton had a quiet rookie campaign in 2014-15, but he'll have a legitimate chance for improvement this season since fellow point guard Dante Exum will be out for the season following surgery to repair a torn ACL. The former Providence standout went undrafted during the 2014 NBA Draft but eventually worked his way into a multi-year deal with the Jazz after a brief stint with the Spurs where he was never given any time on the court by coach Gregg Popovich. After the Jazz were eliminated from the playoffs last year, coach Quin Snyder gave Cotton extended playing time, and the point guard stepped up to the task by compiling 14.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals on just 23 minutes per game through four outings. That production cemented Cotton's spot on Utah's roster for another season, but he's still the low man on the totem pole for minutes with Trey Burke, Alec Burks, and Raul Neto all in line for more reps, even with Exum out of the picture.
