Waived by Philadelphia
Landry was waived Wednesday by the 76ers, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The Sixers had an abundance of big men on the roster heading into training camp, so ridding themselves of Landry, who was projected to be a bench player, was a necessarily evil in order to create flexibility elsewhere. The veteran forward is due $6.75 million for the upcoming season, meaning that only the Nets, Suns, Timberwolves, Nuggets, Jazz and Cavaliers would have cap room to potentially put a claim in. It seems more likely than not that any interested suitors would allow Landry to become a free agent, when he could probably be signed for the veteran's minimum. Landry missed more than half of last season with wrist and back injuries, but was productive in a reserve role for the 76ers, averaging 9.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game.

Two years into his four-year, $26 million deal, Landry was traded from the Kings alongside Jason Thompson and Nik Stauskas to the 76ers this offseason in a salary dump. Last year, under three different head coaches on the Kings, Landry averaged 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.2 steal, and 0.2 blocks in 17 minutes per game through 70 contests. Landry made 51 percent of his shots and 82 percent of his free throws. His range extends to inside the three-point arc, and he's quite adept at making the defense pay with his ability to hit the mid-range shot. The 31-year-old undersized power forward is the second oldest player on the Sixers, and every other player on the roster will be younger than 25 at the start of the season. His time in Sacramento was riddled with nagging injuries, and he was unable to establish a consistent role as the primary backup power forward. For everything he provides offensively, Landry's inadequate defense, subpar rebounding, and position inflexibility will bury him on the depth chart.
