David Johnson

David Ricardo Johnson was born in February of 2001 in Louisville. He is the son of Sheritha Towns. For prep school, Johnson attended Trinity High School in Louisville and was named First Team All-State as a junior. As a senior, Johnson was again named First Team All-State in Kentucky, earned Player of the Year honors from the Lexington Herald-Leader, and was MVP of the Kentucky Sweet 16 tournament. For college, Johnson eventually committed to his hometown University of Louisville Cardinals. Johnson's cousin, Ray Spalding, also played at Louisville before the NBA. A shoulder injury slowed down Johnson during his freshman season. As a sophomore, the shooting guard posted 12.6 points, 3.2 assists and 5.8 boards per game. Johnson was also the only player in the ACC among the top 25 in both rebounding and assists. After the season, Johnson declared himself eligible for the 2021 NBA Draft. The Toronto Raptors selected Johnson with the 47th overall pick and eventually signed the 20-year-old to a two-way contract.
