Maynor signed a one-year contract Tuesday with Pallacanestro Varese of the Italian Serie A Basketball League, international basketball writer David Pick reports.

ANALYSIS
Maynor was the 20th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, but the 6-foot-3 guard lasted only six years in the league, averaging 4.3 points and 2.8 assists over 14.6 minutes per game in his 267 career appearances with the Jazz, Thunder, Trail Blazers, Wizards and 76ers. The 29-year-old joined BC Nizhny Novgorod of the Russian VTB United League last season, but didn't play a single game after tearing his ACL. He'll try to reestablish himself with the Italian club, for whom he suited up with during the second half of the 2014-15 campaign.

The former VCU star returns home as a Wizards upgrade at backup point guard. He proved last year with the Trail Blazers that his ACL problems are behind him. Considering Wall's injury history, Maynor is an interesting late-round pick in deep fantasy leagues.

Maynor, who had successful ACL surgery in January, will be pushed in training camp by Reggie Jackson for the backup job to Russell Westbrook. Whoever lands the role, though, likely won't have much fantasy value. Maynor is not much of a scorer anyway, but he'd likely be a good assists contributor as a pass-first point guard if he got extended minutes.

Maynor will once again serve as the backup point guard behind Russell Westbrook, a role he filled admirably last year when he averaged 4.2 points and 2.9 assists in 14.6 minutes per game. Maynor is a good ball-handler who posted an impressive 3.09/1 assist to turnover ratio last season. That's the extent of his fantasy value, though, as he's not asked to do much more than manage the offense and play good defense while Westbrook rests.

Maynor took over the backup point guard role last season behind starter Russell Westbrook. Trouble is, Westbrook averages about 35 minutes a game, leaving little for Maynor. Don't expect much offensive output.

The two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, Maynor was drafted in the first round by the Jazz. He'll likely get occasional minutes backing up Deron Williams at the point, but as a rookie will have a steep learning curve.

Maynor was a very productive college player who will likely take the back-up point guard spot in 2009.
