Garcia was re-upped on a one-year contract this offseason after finishing his first full year with the Rockets. A nine-year veteran, Garcia saw his minutes increase slightly from 18 per game in the 2012-13 season, to 20 per game during the 2013-14 season. With the slight increase in playing time, he also improved on his points and rebounding numbers, going from 5.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game two seasons ago, to 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game last year. Garcia contributed averages of 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 1.3 three-pointers made as well. His field goal percentage stayed pretty consistent to his career numbers as he averaged 40 percent from the field, but his three-point percentage took a slight dip, and he finished with a 36-percent clip from behind the three-point line. Garcia may play a little of both small forward and shooting guard, but look for the majority of his minutes to be at the small forward position behind Trevor Ariza. Garcia isn't known for his health, as he hasn't had a season reaching the 60 games played mark in four years, so it's questionable whether or not he'll be able to improve on his 2013-14 season numbers.

Garcia stayed relatively healthy last season (49 games) given his poor track record with injuries. But even in the games he was healthy for, he didn’t log very much court time (16.3 minutes per game). With his rising age and the plethora of small forwards on the Kings’ roster, it would be hard to imagine Garcia seeing any sort of significant playing time this season.

The 30-year-old Garcia is a versatile player who can contribute to a variety of fantasy categories. But his biggest issue has been his inability to stay healthy for a full season, averaging just over 62 games played for his career. His per-36 numbers for his career show a respectable 14.0 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.6 3PT, 1.3 STL and 1.1 BLK. But with John Salmons in town, and his poor injury history, it will be hard to recommend Garcia outside of deeper leagues.

Garcia actually has nice upside. In 2008-09, while playing just barely over 30 minutes per game, he was a top-75 player on a per-game basis, proving valuable in threes (1.4 per game), steals (1.2), blocks (1.0), and free-throw percentage (82.0%). Last year's injuries limited him to only 25 games, but he showed roughly the same skillset. The question is one of playing time. Beno Udrih and Tyreke Evans will likely start at the one and two, respectively, and Donta Greene is also around. If Garcia gets close to 27 or 28 minutes, though, he becomes someone to consider rostering.

There’s not a whole lot of flair and flash to Garcia’s game, but he more than makes up for it with his balanced, all-around production. He’s one of those rare glue guys in the mold of Shane Battier – a bit less valuable in head-to-head formats, but extremely deadly in rotisserie leagues. Although he’ll come off the bench behind Andres Nocioni this season, he should still see a consistent 30-32 minutes per game and will be an important piece of the Kings’ offense. He is essentially the antithesis of Stephen Jackson – not really dominant in any one category; rather, fairly good in all of them. Garcia was part of the prestigious one trey, one steal and one block club last season, a luxury for owners looking to gain ground in multiple categories during the mid-rounds of the drafts. You’d be looking in the wrong place if you wanted a player who could potentially break out and have a standout year, but he’s your guy if you want a player that can be relied upon to quietly put up top-75 numbers.

Garcia could be a big winner in the trade that sent Ron Artest to the Rockets. Every time Garcia got the opportunity last season he took full advantage, with averages of 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 44.7 percent shooting from the field and 79.8 percent from the line in 20 games as a starter. Garcia is a long 6-7 swingman who made his name in college as a clutch scorer with good shooting range and tenacious defense. He’s a decent ball-handler, but also plays well off the ball. Garcia will be competing with John Salmons for the starting job as the other wing next to Kevin Martin, but even if Salmons wins the job, Garcia should still get plenty of minutes and improve his overall production in his fourth season.

A couple of things really need to go right for Garcia to become a major player in fantasy hoops. First, it would be good if the Kings hired a coach who knows how best to utilize the 6-7 swingman with the longest arms this side of Tayshaun Prince. Well, the Kings hired Reggie Theus, who was an assistant to Rick Pitino at Louisville when Garcia was a Cardinal. Check. Part two is a bit trickier, as it requires the Kings to pull the trigger on any one of a dozen or so rumored trades involving Ron Artest – without bringing back another swingman (like Quentin Richardson) to block Garcia’s progress. Even if part two doesn’t happen, Garcia is worth a mid-to-late round pick based on his production closing out last season – his averages in 11 April contests – 13.1 points, 4.7 boards, 2.8 assists, 1.0 treys, and 1.7 combined steals/blocks with excellent shooting percentages – could be a sign of what’s to come.

A sub-par summer league performance may have some people questioning Garcia's potential, but his collegiate career and rookie season should suggest otherwise. Last season, he did struggle from the field, but the fact that he played nearly 20 minutes per game suggests that he proved something to his coaches. An injury or two will make him worth keeping an eye on as a waiver-wire pickup.
