Dick logged 60 regular-season appearances as a rookie, including 17 starts, and while he entered the league as the best shooter in the 2023 draft class, the jury is still torn on whether he can translate his college success to the next level. Limited minutes and the lack of an established role as a rookie until the final weeks of the campaign conspired against his upside, but Dick is primed for a more significant role in 2024-25, at least from a playing time perspective. He's expected to open the campaign as a starter for a rebuilding team. Dick made 36.5 percent of his threes as a rookie while averaging 4.0 attempts per contest. His overall stats should also increase, as he posted 8.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 21.1 minutes per game in his first year in the league. However, as a three-point specialist who doesn't bring much else to the table, his fantasy upside isn't high, even if he experiences a sizable uptick in his three-point shooting and overall scoring volume. Dick could be worth a flier with a late-round pick, but if not, fantasy managers would be wise to monitor his progress and check if he's producing enough to be a streaming option. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Gradey Dick spent his lone collegiate season at Kansas, where he averaged 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game en route to Second Team All-Big 12 honors. A consensus five-star recruit out of high school, Dick was named a McDonald's All-American, as well as the Gatorade National Player of the Year for 2021-22. Dick started all 36 of his appearances at Kansas, reaching double-figures 24 times and scoring at least 20 points on seven occasions. In a win over Oklahoma State on Feb. 14, Dick went for a season-high 26 points with four three-pointers. Earlier in the season, during a Nov. 23 victory over North Carolina State, Dick drained a season-high six three-pointers on his way to a 25-point night. On the year, Dick shot 44.2 percent from the field, 40.3 percent from three and 85.4 percent at the free-throw line. At 6-foot-8, Dick has prototypical size for an NBA wing, and he projects to slide between shooting guard and small forward at the next level. Outside shooting projects to be his biggest asset, but Dick is far more than just a three-point specialist. Dick drained nearly 49 percent of his two-point attempts at Kansas and worked his way to the free-throw line 3.0 times per 40 minutes. He also boasts above-average length and athleticism for his size and competes extremely hard with tangible passion on both ends of the floor. Viewed as a mid-to-late-lottery prospect, Dick figures to have a great chance to be a key contributor right away in Year 1. Landing spot will ultimately determine his immediate upside, but Dick has the size, smarts and skillset to be a rotation player as a rookie. If he were to land with a rebuilding team, he could easily compete for a starting spot at two-guard or small-forward. In terms of an NBA comparison, Dick displays shades of Gordon Hayward, Bojan Bogdanovic and Saddiq Bey. Tyler Herro also comes to mind, as Dick displays similar confidence and shot-making ability, though he's bigger than Herro and not quite as shifty.
Shoots well in return

Dick (calf) tallied 15 points (5-9 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two steals and one rebound across 23 minutes Thursday in the Raptors' 129-92 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS Because of the blowout nature of the game in addition to the fact that he was returning from a five-game absence due to a bruised left calf, Dick saw his fewest minutes of the season Thursday. The second-year wing started and shot well from three-point land in his return, but aside from his contributions in the steals category, his stat line was mostly lacking. Dick is averaging 17.9 points and 2.4 three-pointers over his 18 appearances thus far, but many of his big games came with Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley (elbow) missing time with injuries. Quickley appears on track to return at some point later this month, so Dick could be headed for a reduction in his 22.7 percent usage rate as the season unfolds.

He also boasts above-average length and athleticism for his size and competes hard on both ends of the floor. The Raptors selected him with the No. 13 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He was aggressive in four Summer League appearances, averaging 16.0 points on 15.0 shots, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 28.2 minutes. With the Raptors relatively thin on the wing, especially with knock-down three-point shooters, Dick should have an opportunity to be a meaningful part of the rotation immediately. Standard league fantasy value seems unlikely, but he's worth keeping an eye on as a potential streamer.

Tipped for growth in 2024-25
FToronto Raptors
October 14, 2024
Dick is mentioned as one of several role players who could outperform expectations in the 2024-25 season, according to John Hollinger of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS Dick is expected to take a leap in his game after an uneven rookie year in 2023-24. Even though he's proven to be a capable threat from long range, he needs to improve on his 36.5 percent mark from beyond the arc if that will be the primary source of his scoring. If he can take a step forward on defense as well, then Dick could cement his place as a regular starter on a rebuilding Raptors team for years to come.
