Joe Chealey

Joseph Emmanuel Chealey was born in 1995 in Orlando, Florida to Willy and Dianne Chealey. He attended Apopka High School in Apopka, Florida. As a junior, Chealey posted 10.7 points and 4.5 assists per game. In his senior campaign, he increased those averages to 19 points and six assists while adding three steals en route to a 24-3 record and 8A District 5 League title. Chealey played four years at College of Charleston of the Colonial Athletic Association. He appeared in 129 total games (109 starts), averaging 14.2 points throughout his career. After his sophomore season in 2014-15, Chealey suffered a torn Achilles tendon that forced him to miss the entire year, but he came back as productive as ever. Chealey was a top-seven scorer in the conference in both his redshirt junior and senior seasons. His senior year saw a string of career highs, including points (18.0), rebounds (4.6) and assists (3.6) per game. Chealey also led the Cougars to a NCAA Tournament berth that season, where they lost to Auburn by just four points in the opening-round matchup. At the conclusion of his career, Chealey was 20th all-time in CAA scoring with 1,827 points (fourth in program history). He is also the program leader in career free throws made with 582.
