Kuminga looked out of control at times early in his career, but he was a different player last season. Despite getting off to a slow start, Kuminga averaged 18.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.7 steals and 0.7 threes on 54 percent shooting from January 1 through the end of 2023-24. That's 44 games of excellent play, and he did that while mixing and matching his role. It remains to be seen if Kuminga will be a reserve player this season, but he might be starting since Klay Thompson is now with the Magic. Golden State also added Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De'Anthony Melton during the offseason, which is troublesome since Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis are on the rise as well. We didn't even mention how veterans like Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins need their minutes, making this one of the toughest teams to evaluate. That's probably too many cooks in the kitchen for Kuminga to play 30-35 minutes as a starter, but that would be a frustrating development with how special this 21-year-old forward looked at times last season. Given his upside, fantasy managers may have to reach in drafts to acquire Kuminga's services this season, but optimists could be rewarded if he finally gets the leading role he's been after since his rookie campaign. Kuminga totaled 20 points (8-20 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-6 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one block in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 91-90 loss to the Rockets.

However, Kuminga has struggled mightily from the charity stripe this season, converting just 58.2 percent of his 4.1 free-throw attempts per contest.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
2021
Kuminga garnered a limited role for a second straight season in 2022-23. The 6-foot-7 forward saw slight increases across the board. Most notably, the 2021 lottery pick more than doubled his assists per game from 0.9 to 1.9 and shot 37.0 percent from three (2.2 attempts per contest) compared to 33.6 percent as a rookie. Across 16 starts, Kuminga was more productive, averaging 12.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals-plus-blocks in 28.2 minutes per game, but he was still rough around the edges when handed an expanded role. Jordan Poole and Donte DiVincenzo are gone, but the Warriors replaced them with Chris Paul, Cory Joseph and Brandin Podziemski. Golden State's frontcourt looks the same at the top with Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, but Dario Saric and Trayce Jackson-Davis were added as depth pieces and both offer unique skill sets. There's not a clear path for Kuminga to carve out a larger role unless he can translate his potential into on-court production during his age-21 campaign. Surrounded by two of the greatest shooters ever (Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson), Kuminga needs to focus on taking care of the ball, playing solid defense and dominating the boards before he starts to play over 20 minutes on a regular basis.
Kuminga put together a couple of nice stretches during his rookie season but was largely irrelevant in fantasy. Saddled with a team that will again be chasing a title, Kuminga may struggle again to play consistent minutes. There may be periods throughout the campaign during which he can be a 12-team asset, likely due to the Warriors managing the minutes for several of their veterans. Over the final three months of the 2021-22 season, Kuminga boosted his scoring to 12.2 points per game on an efficient 53 percent from the floor. Unfortunately, he offered very little else, and rostering a player who only offers upside in one or two categories is next to impossible. While he is another player to throw on your watchlist, especially in deep leagues and dynasty/keeper formats, there will be more appealing targets at the back end of standard drafts.
Early in the draft process, Kuminga was viewed as a potential No. 1 overall pick, but by the time the draft rolled around, evaluators were decidedly undecided on the 18-year-old, who spent last season alongside Jalen Green with the G League Ignite. At 6-6, 210 with top-tier athleticism, Kuminga certainly looks the part of an elite NBA wing, but his effort and decision-making raised question marks, as did his 39-25-63 shooting splits. Despite the inefficiency, Kuminga still got to 15.9 points per game - while adding 7.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals/blocks - but he'll enter the year as perhaps the top boom-or-bust candidate among rookies. For fantasy purposes, Kuminga is too risky to warrant anything but a late-round pick in most standard leagues. And even if does look better than advertised -- he made some head-turning plays in Summer League -- he'll be stuck behind Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, James Wiseman, and perhaps even Otto Porter, in the pecking order.

December 14, 2024
Kuminga is averaging 21.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in five December appearances and is getting every opportunity to break out for good, Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS Kuminga is averaging 14.4 points per game when coming off the bench this season, but his numbers have experienced a drastic improvement since being promoted to a starting role. Kuminga will be a free agent in the summer, but he's showing enough improvement to make the Warriors consider handing him a new deal in the near future.
